Perfect Wheels/Tires Combo?

You keep talking about 215/40/17. 205/45/17 gives you as much overall diameter as 205/50/16 (your 16" option)...and there are many tire options at 205/45/17. 205/45 fills the stock fender gap nicely. Use a tire size calculator to play with overall dimensions. I will tell you that after having this wheel setup - I want to get lightweight 16's like I originally wanted due to less weight and more sidewall. I will tell you the car DOES ride better at 205/45 than 205/40. However, the increased diameter while maintaining same weight wheel gives the car a bit of acceleration lag in 1st gear.

Here is my car with stock suspension, 205/45/17 tires on svt wheels. Oh, I also wish I had a lower offset like aftermarket wheels (+42)
I like your car, really nice. But i know about the 205/45 thats why im not looking in that size. i still havent buy anything yet, i spent hours searching trying to figure out what set up i will like the best and cant decide. By diameter the 215/40/17 look like the perfect one of course in 17". But im afraid 17" is too heavy for the fist. And if i go 16" i dont know what tire will better on stock susp, 195/50 or 205/50.

If you were to lower it do you think the tires would rub the fenders? Im having a hard time choosing a setup also with my BC coils.
Based upon my research, and the actual clearance on my car, no they will not come close. I saw someone on here with some Motegi MR!25s, which are 7.5" but the same offset(42mm, which means they will stick out more) and he was super low on coilovers. He only reported of rubbing over large bumps. So with a 7" and a moderate drop, all should be fine.

Thats it, thats the setup i want. Look perfect to me when all stock. I can see that i need an offset of the same or maybe 40 but no more no less. Thanks a lot. I will post pic after wheels are mount.
Same here. I like those multispoke Ford Racing wheels but the offset is too deep. I want something to be more flush with the car.

The Ford Racing wheels are too heavy anyway, might as well stay with your stock wheels.

Im really considering getting 16x7 e45 pro race 1.2 wheels and 205/45 tires to play it safe with my coilovers.

Doogie - they're 21lbs. You're right, pretty much same as our stock wheels however IMO they look alot better in person, so if you like the look it could be worth it. I didn't understand ratonboy's comment on 205/45/17 tires, made no sense to me. "But i know about the 205/45 thats why im not looking in that size" What do you know about it? lol

For me though, I want lighter and I actually want 16's - I'll probably go with motegi mr125 in 16" fitment. I also want 205/50 not 45 as I'm not on coilovers and like how the extra tire fills the wheel gap.

I was looking at those earlier today. Only thing the 16s only come in black and I would like the gunmetal grey ones, that only come in 17s, for my black ST.

And I want to go 16s too but I heard people say there's an acceleration lag due to the extra rubber, is this true? I'm still learning the pros and cons of 16s vs 17s. I know for sure I'm not going 15s. My winter tires are 15s and I don't think they look good; even with a beefer tire.

Regarding acceleration lag - I said that I have that perception about 205/45/17 with those ford svt wheels. Now is that because the overall diameter of 205/45 is 3.4% larger than 205/40? Most likely yes. Now, woudl there still be acceleration lag if I had lighter weight wheels at 18lbs vs 21lbs? I don't think there would but I don't know the physics/math on that??

Regarding 16's. If you go with 205/45/16, its actually a smaller diameter than 205/40/17 so no issues there. 205/50/16 is 2.6% bigger than stock but your overall weight is decreasing by a good amount, so I seriously doubt you'd have any "lag" and on the flipside, it should be more responsive and "sharper" feeling.

Kip - Funny, I want black ones :) Did you look at MSW type 85 on tirerack (less than $100)? They're more of a gunmetal, and have a straight multispoke design which is a very good design for our cars (multispoke, and 6 or 7 spoke wheels look really good). I can't tell how the concavity of the wheel looks though....

I might just cave and get sparco gara's - lightweight, good price, look bigger than they are, and are a very very good looking wheel on our cars.

205/50/16= 24.1", 205/45/17=24.3", 205/45/16=23.4", 205/40/17=23.4", 215/40/17=23.9
These are the average diameter of these tire sizes. I would choose one closest to stock diameter 23.4" and take wheel and tire weight into consideration for optimal performance. I liked the look and comfort of my 205/50/16 tires except for the rubbing being lowered with coils.

I love the look of the MR125s but I don't like the black on black look. I might buy them and just have the plastidipped. Who knows. Ha.

And I did see those. I like the MSW Type 85, I just would like to see them on our car if possible. And I was also looking at the Sparcos, but I kinda don't like that amount of space in between each spoke. Getting picky I know, but if there were 2 or 3 more spokes in their design I'd love them.

So what are you going to get, tire size wise?

Quick question to anyone out there, I notice that the montegi mr116 are light wheels but when i search all over the internet i only see fist with the black/red lip wheels. There is NONE with the black/chrome lip or silver/chrome lip. Anyone know why is that? I dont like that lip myself but in todays world i guess it is ok. Cars like the Porsche come in black with black wheels and chrome lip and look awesome.

You wont feel the lag of 205/45 tires unless you get super light wheels and tires. I had Sparco Assettos which weighed 16lbs with General Tires that weighed 18lbs and didnt feel the lag. I instantly felt the quick acceleration from that setup compared to the stock wheels 22.5lbs and Tires 19lbs.
