Hmmm yea 45 offset is pretty weird I would think you would need like 35-38 not sure the lowest offset those TD wheels come in

The lower the offset the further the wheels poke. I think a 7.5" et38 would look pretty good on a mildly lowered car, and possibly even on stock suspension.

My car on OEM suspension and 17x7 et42 wheels with OEM 205/40's. A 17x7 et38 is 10.4mm outboard, which is less than 1/2".

I'm not saying Chalon is wrong or that the conversation didn't exist-just giving my opinion. Nothing more, nothing less.

Edit-What a weird angle. I'll try to get a better shot and edit it in later.

Just in case you don't think I know how to crunch numbers for fitment-

The stock wheel offset is something like 47. So going down a couple, to 42-45 will push the wheel out more for a more flush look. Which is what you have, obviously.

Correct. OEM offset is 47.5, so my wheels are outboard 5.5mm from that.

Exactly. Just trying to put it in terms where some people can understand, by comparing it to stock.

And off topic, but what 5 spoke wheels are you running?

Those are Sean Hyland Motorsports Evo wheels. There were 10 sets made back in the early 2000's for the Mk1 Focus.

I opened this thread with the purpose of ordering my new wheels/tires and still dont have a clear answer. Thanks to all that are trying to help, we getting there. Im down to two, 205/50/16 or 215/40/17. I really want to go with the 17" for the look but the 16" have a bigger overall diameter which means they will look better on stock susp because they will cover more gap, Does that make sense or im wrong? And after i decide which size than i need to know if i should go with the 7 or 7.5. Just need basic answers, like, Will 215 on 7.5 pass the fender or not? Will 205 look stretch on 7.5 or even 7? Help help help

I can give you some visual answers to your questions that might help...

Here is a 17x7 +42 with 205/45/17 Bridgestone Potenza S04 on 100% stock suspension.

Here is a 17x7 +42 with 205/45/17 Bridgestone Potenza S04, lowered 1.75" on coilovers

Here is a 17x7 +42 with 215/40/17 Dunlop ZII Star Specs, lowered .65" on coilovers

Any way you could get a stock suspension picture of both the 215/40 and 205/45 Razor? I see you have 205/45 but not one of 215/40.

I cannot as the car no longer has stock suspension and the 215's where acquired after that.

Damn, okay. Thanks again. Those pictures are more than helpful. Just wanted to see the 215 on stock. I'll either be running those or 205/45 in the spring. Leaning toward the 45s for better ride comfort.

Good pictures, Good looking fist... I think that size is not for me, i could be wrong but with with three kids most likely those 205/45/17 will rub and i want to avoid that. One thing that help me with those pic is that i can see that i dont need that extra .5 on the wheel. 17x7 look good to me. I would like to see a close up pic of a 215 tire on a 17x7 wheel, wondering how that look on our small fist.

205/45/17 won't rub with stock suspension. It doesn't at current height either. Only time it rubbed was when it was slammed at 1.75" lower.

I've had the car totally full of people and gear and hit some pretty big hwy bumps with zero issues.

This is a known set up, Team Dynamics Pro Race 1.2 17x8 +48mm wrapped in 215/40/17 Dunlop Direzza ZII Star Spec, lowered on Pro Kit springs w/no rubbing. The equivalent 17x7.5 wheel would have a 54mm offset.

Crzyworm623 indicated he was not going to lower any time soon in response to a pic of 17x7.5/38mm offset. I provided pics for reference and indicated the 53mm offset as being the highest offered by Team Dynamics for the 17x7.5 Pro Race 1.2, and that the 53mm offset is within 1mm of the 17x8/48mm fitment. The 17x7.5 53 offset pokes within .4mm of stock as well. So the objective to go 7.5" width, locating the wheel as close to stock as possible, without issues, was reached.

While I certainly agree inset will be tight, it has been proven, so enough said there. Many new at spec wheel buying are not familiar with what offset changes do. In the case of Crzyworm623, a stock appearance was chosen over a wider stance due to appearance differences. I have years of experience with fitments and am not in the business of selling wheels to a customer without their best interests in mind.

This post is not to call anyone out. I felt some context was important to add, and to assure the specs work.

You keep talking about 215/40/17. 205/45/17 gives you as much overall diameter as 205/50/16 (your 16" option)...and there are many tire options at 205/45/17. 205/45 fills the stock fender gap nicely. Use a tire size calculator to play with overall dimensions. I will tell you that after having this wheel setup - I want to get lightweight 16's like I originally wanted due to less weight and more sidewall. I will tell you the car DOES ride better at 205/45 than 205/40. However, the increased diameter while maintaining same weight wheel gives the car a bit of acceleration lag in 1st gear.

Here is my car with stock suspension, 205/45/17 tires on svt wheels. Oh, I also wish I had a lower offset like aftermarket wheels (+42)

I love that look on our cars, but like you said I wish the offset was 42, like the Sparco wheels available for our cars.

And I'm still debating on which tires to get. I heard 215/40 gives better ride and is wider, which is always better. And I've heard 205/45 gives a better ride and feels the wheel gap. But I don't want any performance LOSES from getting a tire, so that acceleration thing kinda pulls me away from the 205/45. But like you pointed out, they're are more options with that size.

I don't think I'll ever be able to choose with ones to put back on in the Spring.
