QUOTE="Williamson, post: 503769, member: 15832"]Full disclosure, I'm still on the stock airbox. ST200 or an ITG/Peron are on the list (along with crossover piping) but I'm a little surprised it's apparently so heavily choked up by the stock box. Hence the initial surprise to the misunderstanding about the intake.

Luckily I've got some money coming in that is disposable to throw down for a new intake and a retune, and I could live with the power even without.
Airbox will not make that big of difference only difference is It Is shorter and sucks in cold air through the bottom . A larger crossover pipe will help but again not huge gains . Your numbers still sound really low unless you dynoed on a Mustang dyno.

235 on a Mustang dyno is 275-280 on a dynojet. I dyno’d at that on a Mustang dyno as well witH my first tuner and the car was fast but tossed tons of codes and some that the tUner wanted to blame on Cobb so I bailed and went to Tune+ never looked back that was like over 2 years ago v dynoed at 284 whp on 91 and 284 ft lbs . Oh and yes the car is faster than it was on the first tuner.[/QUOTE]
Misstated 255 whp, brainfart. 275 whp is where I speculate based on cars I ran against.
Adam tuning my S280 too. Decent. Motor limitations apparently.
Gonna dyno on a dynojet and mustang dyno on my 91, 93, and e50 aux fuel tunes probably come spring to compare for my own interest and I am sure the forum will be interested too.

Looks like I'm getting a 2J intake as a gift so I suppose we'll find out if it makes a difference or not! I'm away from the car on a work trip atm so I can't measure myself, does anyone know what size the inlet is on the S280? My gut wants to say 3" but I don't want it to get ordered and be wrong lol.

So your on the S280 and catted DP now? I have all the hardware (new studs/bolts) and the Turbo DP on shipping today/tomorrow. Looking at install date 12/17/23. Really excited about it and have my friend who is a Tech for a large Auto supplier here in Detroit and has a lift I can use and a ton of experience on his side to help me out.

Yup, S280 and Whoosh catted DP. Honestly the catted DP kinda wasn't worth the cost other than feeling better about my slightly reduced environmental impact. The install really isn't that hard and it was the first time I had ever done any work of that level, and I did 95% of the work on my own. 5% was mostly asking for advice and sometimes technique to get stuff in or out from my mechanic friend. Definitely go from the top unless you want to mess with TTY subframe bolts and getting everything realigned (Which I decided I didn't want to do).

Make sure you have your base map in hand from whoever you're getting tuned by. Just saw a post on FB from someone yesterday who didn't and had to figure out an alternative way of getting the car home until they could get one lmao.

Got the base map worked out with Dizzy I believe. Just have to pay for it. Looks like the 16th is a go for it.

Question: How much louder is it now? My car isn't "loud" but you can sure here it. Really don't want it any louder.

Yeah you have to pay for it first, you want the base map in hand on your AP when you do the install.

It got an amount louder, but it could just be the 3" downpipe making it sound throatier. I think it sounds good with a full Thermal setup and isn't too loud or obnoxious, but I want it louder externally, so I'm looking at getting a separate section made without the muffler but keeping the resonator

I mean I'm S280, no stock snail anymore. E85 would be great, but the lack of availability in my state (There's a total of 4 stations in the entire state, and only one of them is remotely close to me) makes it not super viable outside of track days. It's on the list, but I'm trying to square away my daily usable power and I'll grab an E30 (or E85 if/when I do HPFP and injectors) tune at a later date for track use.

I wish I had gotten it dyno'd before the S280 went in so I could put hard numbers of improvement to what I feel, but I didn't do that, so whoops

Only 4 e stations? Are you in Utah?

Yes dont think I am going to do anything with e fuels for the time being. Seems like problems if you are some where it isn't overly available.

I think I NEED an S280. This afternoon, coming up to a red light I knew was about to turn, i passed a jeep going into merging lanes. Well, Mr Jeep which turned out to be an E Jeep, decided he wanted to get back in front and I couldn’t keep in front of him 😩😩

An embarrassment like that should convince the wife right?!
Wouldn’t the hybrid be more what you are looking for? You’d need more response to compete with any EV as they have instant power, just saying

I would love to compare a Hybrid and S280 both tuned to 340/340 whp/tq in a low speed roll race or 60-130. Not sure on how the Hybrid would hold up in a long top end pull. It would produce too much heat I think without a highly efficient intercooler and maybe water/meth injection on top of E85?

I actually have not found too much problem with most EV’s with my S280 . Now a Tesla Plaid well that’s probably a different story. Though you have to realize having insane TQ down low is a problem when one does not have enough tire to keep it planted and not spinning. That’s the point a lot miss with our cars, We do not have enough room for the amount of tire we really should be running. It’s a compromise at best. So ya no S280 will give plenty of get up and go to handle EV

Seems like you would need an LSD and drag radials to be able to dip into the low 4’s 0-60. Most EV’s can do sub 4’s no problem. Too bad they never gave the FiST AWD. Once you’re rolling I’m sure the top end of the S280 would even the playing field. I got smoked by a dual motor Model X. After 100 I can reel them in and eventually pass them over 120. This is on the stock turbo.

Biggest problem with our cars is gear spacing. 1st requires a quick shift to second coming off the line which really loses time. if first was taller you could get a better dig in before shifting. You can make it work but it’s not efficient . I rely on the fact the car is relatively light giving it a natural advantage and being quick on my feet so to speak. I do have a Wavtrac LSD and have found with tire pressure at 38 pounds I eliminate a fair amount of TQ steer run factory spec 39 and the car pulls to the right hard due to TQ with the LSD when nailing it. Without out the LSD is was back and forth unruly.

One thing I wish they had for the FiST was a taller final drive. It could def be a good bit taller. I swear with a strong enough clutch you could launch these cars in 2nd gear. Ive done it once or twice with a mild launch keeping revs at about 2800 until the speed matches the revs; full torque hits and catapults you forward with way more velocity than 1st ever could, at least on street tires. Too hard on stock clutch, unfortunately. I'm running some cheap Delonte 205-45-17 All seasons for winter and they sidewall is quate a bit taller. Rubs in sharp turn, but it made 1st gear a bit more usable and 2nd gear grips much better than the stock sized G-Max tire I had. I rarely spin in 3rd at torque peak now unless going over a crest. or it's very cold or damp.

Can anyone with an S280 confirm if I have these lines routed correctly? I believe the disconnected solenoid line is supposed to be left disconnected, is that right? Also I'm confused about where the BOV is supposed to be connected...

Related, I understand the Turbosmart 14psi wastegate is supposed to have 2mm of preload and the instructions say to use compressed air to install. I've got the lever arm about 2mm from sitting on the actuator arm, so I'm supposed to run compressed air in through the vent line in order to actuate enough to slip over the linkage, is that right?

Please help me, I'm dumb! IMG_6172.JPG

Not dumb. That’s routed correctly. You can leave the other end of the solenoid open to atmosphere if you want, or you can use a quick tap and route that air back into the intake elbow. The BPV should have come with a boost reference source that goes on the intake manifold’s MAP sensor. You route the vac line from there down behind the engine to the BPV. Make sure you don’t route it somewhere that’ll touch hot exhaust manifold.

Thank you very very much!

I was able to figure out how the BOV routes to the MAP sensor. Now I just need to sort out how to preload a wastegate and I think we'll be ready to install.
