the lid just looks tacky to me and I don't think it's going to significantly make a difference it shielding heat in that little corner when the car is at speed.

Relax. It's a prototype. It's not going to win any appearance awards. And I'll go ahead a trust Mishi's engineers on what they think will make a difference functionally.

John, nice work. It looks like the lid will need to be removed when trying to remove the driver side headlight when removing the front clip? It is neccessary to have the lid extend that far, perhaps keep the width same as stock? It looks like 3 bolts for the lid, but still... Currently there's no need to remove the OE airbox to remove the headlight.
It looks like they're trying to shield that grille piece from the rest of the engine bay. I'd be willing to bet that the top of the airbox would come off fairly easily, which would give you access to the headlight. One extra step, but not terrible, IMO.
OIC... Their airbox lid still appears to sit too close to the headlamp housing ..I would be more concerned with vibrational rubbing against the headlamp assembly...But I'm sure Mishi could easily fix that....
Thanks for the input guys! With the existing design, the lid can be removed without touching the headlamp. To remove the headlamp assembly itself, the airbox lid will need to come off. Fortunately, this is quite simple and requires the removal of just 3 bolts. The lid will be designed in a manner as to not contact the headlamp, our team is very detail oriented and this will be sorted out in the final design.

All product recommendations are certainly welcome, this is one of the main reasons we make these development threads. The input we get helps us create a product that will best suit enthusiasts actually driving the vehicle in question. Function is our first priority with these projects. Once we have that taken care of, we can begin adding creativity and polishing our design aesthetics.

Take a look at the aluminum Mountune box. THat box fits well in the provided space, uses the OEM top, has the two mounting points at the bottom, and it has the inlet to the front of the engine, as well as another fiber hose inlet at the bottom. Put a little insulation on this box and you have a pretty good solution. I opened up a hole in the radiator front shroud to let more air come in, but adding a snorkel that runs to the radiator area should really allow more cold air to enter this type of box. There is a vendor on this site that is trying to get access to a FiST to build these snorkels. I ended up running gold heat tape on the Mountune box, and am hopeful the snorkel becomes available. Just a few suggestions.

Put a little insulation on this box and you have a pretty good solution. I opened up a hole in the radiator front shroud to let more air come in, but adding a snorkel that runs to the radiator area should really allow more cold air to enter this type of box. There is a vendor on this site that is trying to get access to a FiST to build these snorkels. I ended up running gold heat tape on the Mountune box, and am hopeful the snorkel becomes available. Just a few suggestions.
The Mountune box only accommodates a panel filter, though, right? If they want to run a big cone filter, I think the whole box needs to be replaced.

Yes, thats correct, but it does not stop Mishimoto from fitting a cone filter into a box that is similar to the Mountune.

Thanks for the input guys! I will start by saying the Mountune is a very nice looking kit. We typically do not compare our products to competitor components, however if their are features you guys would like to see, we certainly need to listen to your recommendations.

Due to restrictions in terms of space, most airbox setups in the factory location will be similar shape/style. The differences I see between our existing prototype and the Mountune system include the piping material difference, the pipe route inclusions (our kit is from the turbo to the airbox), the additional air duct, the filter style, and the airbox lid. As of now, I do not see the benefit of using the factory airbox lid, unless you were hoping to hide the fact that an aftermarket component exists in your engine bay. The lower duct is certainly an interesting idea, and is something we have been considering since the start of development. Proper testing will reveal if any improvements can be made with the additional airflow provided. We will be sticking with our cone-style filter as we've had fantastic success with our existing intake systems and the cone-style offers improved surface area. An additional snorkel is definitely an interesting idea, but first we would need to determine if there was a deficiency in airflow with the existing ducting.

Our engineers will continue to test/perfect our design. We should have our first round of testing up later this week!

Thanks for the kind words! Being that we are still a bit early in the prototyping phase, we do not have concrete pricing on our kit. Once we have a final design, we should have a better idea to provide an estimate. That being said, we will be running a discounted pre-sale for those who followed the progress of our R&D. This will be posted here on the forums once we complete R&D.

I do not believe we've made a final decision in terms of color options. What would you like to see offered for our kit?

  • Turbocharger Inlet Hose Color
  • Intake Pipe Color/Finish
  • Airbox Color/Finish

I'm a fan of different color options. I love decorating my engine bay and being able to get let's say a plum purple intake would be bad ass or a royal blue finish. The usual is black, aluminum. Which is cool but I think if you offer other color options this will be a big hit. When I had my caliber srt4 jmb started doing the color option. Became a big hit.

Red and Blue are the Ford default colors and most aftermarket manu's are already producing their products in those colors.

Only one I've seen is red which aem,cpe and injen make. Show me who makes blue? I been looking but can't find it. Also a carbon fiber pieace would be nice

Correct. It's a start. In the end, I would always custom paint my items to insure color matching. Though I think this round I will be applying some heat shielding material to my intake pipe so I won't bother with color on it specifically.

Thanks for the input! Our typical color options are noted below, but we can always consider adding additional finishes.

Airbox: Powder-Coated Black
Intake Piping: Polished Aluminum, Powder-Coated Black
Silicone Hose: Red, Black or Blue Silicone

We would need a few folks on board with an additional color to make it happen, but we are certainly open to recommendations. Plum Purple certainly sounds interesting!
