Most recommendations I see are simply "don't". If you do run them, 10mm at the most for the sake of wear on your bearings.

I'll admit I've never looked into the issue with any serious intent though.

I have stock size after market wheels from BRAID and have been using wheel spacers with the appropriate bolts for about 8yrs with NO problems!

If someone wants to keep the factory wheels as well get a different look and fill out the wheel wells... quality hub centric spacers are no issues. I wanted to keep the factory wheels on the Fist so spacers were the fix, two ST's and 60k miles and no issues! I've owned 20+ cars / Jeeps most with aftermarket wheels and some with spacers and never an issue.
