Most recommendations I see are simply "don't". If you do run them, 10mm at the most for the sake of wear on your bearings.

I'll admit I've never looked into the issue with any serious intent though.

If someone wants to keep the factory wheels as well get a different look and fill out the wheel wells... quality hub centric spacers are no issues. I wanted to keep the factory wheels on the Fist so spacers were the fix, two ST's and 60k miles and no issues! I've owned 20+ cars / Jeeps most with aftermarket wheels and some with spacers and never an issue.

For street driving I say spacers are perfectly fine. Bonus points if you can find hubcentric ones. However I am not a fan of them on track. I have driven various cars with spacers, including some of my own and I feel like it makes the car a little un easy during hard braking or high G force scenarios. Nothing scary or life threatening. But I would not run them if not necessary. just my Personal preference
