Check to see whether you can shim it.
Ran into a similar issue with my motorcycle after replacing a brake lever.
It worked on a reverse principal of activating as the switch pin was let-out. So I ended up shaving the switch's pin down a hair.
EDIT: For a clutch switch in a prior car, added a bumper-pad to the pedal.
