Yes and no.
If you buy a brand new car and you don't put any money down, and you finance everything then Gap Insurance is probably a good idea. Don't buy it at the dealership get it through your own insurance company.
Example when you definitely don't need it the last car my wife and I purchased we got 23% off the sticker price we also put some money down as well. That car does not need gap insurance it is worth more than what we financed.
