Cheapest place to order a CAP?

So basically you end up with the same thing at a higher cost.

Most of the tuner's include their base tune with the AccessPort at the higher cost.

I contacted one dealer that offers their tune (1 revision included) with the AP - it was $75 more than the cheapest price I got for just the AccessPort. He said they do sell their base tune on it's own, but it's $150, which means the cheap AP and the tune would be $75 more than buying the AP from them with their tune on it. For another $50 ($125 more than for just the cheap AP), I could get a custom tune on 91/93.

When I had my '09 WRX, I ran an of the shelf tune from a vendor that was $75 - there are more vendors doing it for the WRX, so the prices are much lower it seems - and it was a nice upgrade from the standard Cobb canned tune. I'm probably not going to mod my FiST that much more than a tune, so I'd want the base tune from a vendor.

Yes, the e or pro tune really does make that much of a difference over the OTS. I'm sure the stage 1 tune included on the AP from most reputable tuners will be a noticeable improvement over the Cobb OTS tune as well. Heck I was on a 93 octane OTS tune all the way up to about 3 weeks ago. I ran a stage 3 OTS tune for about a week and it was just fine, until I went with an e-tune.

My point was if you are modifying your car past stage 1 (or even stage 2 which I skipped and went directly to stage 3) then it makes no difference who you buy your AP from. However, I can see the value in buying an AP pre loaded with a "generic" pro tune for stage 1 especially if you are going to be staying that way for a awhile. I say "generic" because it's a one size fits all solution not an e-tune or dyno tune. There is nothing wrong with that, it's just that no two cars are alike and some will benefit more or less from such a tune. Unfortunately, I bought my AP V3 back in December 2013 and there were almost no "tuning" options like there are now. I would have loved to have had a MAPerformance stage 1 tune on my car.

The only plans I have power-wise for my car for the time being are a Cobb air filter and an accessport. I can get the filter and the AP from Modbargains for ~$485 OTD right now. If the tune from MAPerformance is that much better than the stock Cobb tune, I'd pay $500 for the AP, but I suppose I'd have to research the dyno results.

Edit: I see that there's a 10% off code with free shipping from MAPerformance. It's looking better and better...

California doesn't have 93 octane, unfortunately. I know that a few guys are doing E30, but I'm not sure what the ratio of 91 octane to E85 is.

The site says it's free with the purchase of an Accessport, but that stage 1 page doesn't mention for sure.

However if anybody from the forum purchase it from us and emails me directly I will be obliged to email them over a tune file free of charge. You technically bought a Cobb Accessport from us so it works out!

3 gallons a tank

Actually 4.5 gallons of E85 to fill up with 91 octane to get you a safe E32-35 content so as not to be under (E85 is sometimes not 85, so to compensate for this variable shoot for a little higher)...

I usually just run the tank out until the gauge says 10 miles left and I get 3 gallons of e85, then fill the rest up with 93.

3:1 Ratio is what I go for, so the small amount left in the tank will have a little e85 in it still, works out pretty well for me.

Adding more E85 isn't going to change the ethanol content, it is only going to effect the octane. Getting too much e85 in there is going to stress out the fuel system and not allow for any room for more power. E30 is all our stock turbo cars need in my opinion, doing any higher mix of ethanol content isn't going to make a huge difference.

Agreed.. what I was saying was because of E85 has been tested to be between E70 to E90 because of manufacturing processes that to ensure that you have at least an E30 fuel is to use 4.5 gallons of E85 to 8 gallons of 91 octane will keep you in safe E content zone
