I am trying to recall the mix I ran in my Forester with the JDM drivertrain custom 2-way coilovers, etc...it was a very quick Forester as those were but a few of the mods...., I got out of that car because it was great fun but I wanted more power and a suby costs a fortune to build a grenade engine, I did not want to have a $90k car as was already over $60k into it. I parted it and bought a race vette, far more practical track car

I think it as Syncro Max, some Redline 75-90, some Shockproof, etc.....it was a blend developed by a subaru guru and really worked great.

OK, my weekend started early.
I just changed the trans/diff gear oil to Motul 300.
There IS a difference you can feel.

I did drive my car with the stock lube enough to know this is better as I had used the stock stuff after the LSD install to check for leaks, etc.....on track this stuff was superb so when you get to really use it hard you may even be happier with it

So far the lowest for me is overnight at 30 or so degrees and it shifted perfectly immediately

I think that might have been the high temp today with overnight snow and 30 mph winds!!! Upside is cool temps make big power but cold hard tires can't find traction

It was 72 here at 5200 ft in Morgan Utah but in the next few days we are expecting 16 at night and mid thirties in the day.

I spent 20 years in SoCal and was really bored with the weather, a nice challenging slippery, cold, wind whipped, etc....storm, that is living at it's finest in many ways

Before then one of the best drives of my life was from Vancouver WA, crossed to OR, up the Columbia River canyon in pouring rain, got a ticket for 105 in a 55(fuel crunch horrid era), then into blowing snow the rest of the trip to Spokane WA, two gas stops, less than 4 hours....in a very modified 510, it must of been 1974 or around there.

Now I drive like the grandpa I am most of the time, just get it on a bit here and there but on a race track, I will make you move over if I can catch you

Do you know of DRM, Doug Rippie Motorsports? They build a lot of Vette race cars and others, great people. Doug retired to just engine building and then retired completely, his son Randy runs the place and ice races as well.

Are you guys filling it up to the fill hole? According to the service manual it says to keep the fluid an inch below the fill hole. Seems odd I think. How can you even measure that?

I forgot what the amount in volume is, I think 1.8 bottles and they have markers on them so it is easy to do it that way, just stop when that much has been pored in or use a marked funnel as listed in another post on this thread. Either way would be easier to be more accurate than trying to measure what is in the unit.

I miss the good ol' days of filling until it leaks from the fill hole. My Land Rover LR3 differentials are the same way, must be measured....annoying.

I think if you add 1.6 or 1.7 ML you will be fine depending if it is a fluid swap only or a new fill after working on the diff. like adding a lsd where you have it open and totally empty but a lil less on a fluid change and yes fill till it drips is so much easier. though I could get my pinky finger in the fill hole and feel the fluid with my calibrated pinky finger tip.. lol

If the gears are quieter then you have a big gain already, less wear, less drag, etc....those alone are worth the cost and time

Actually the 300 could have more drag, why it is quieter, but would be better for us that use our cars hard regularly and in the end a slight loss of fuel mileage may be cheaper or at least less of a headache than a blown transaxle.

I'm gonna try the AMSOIL MTG 75w-90 GL-4 today. It's specs are closer to the Motul's than the others that you listed on p1 of this thread. I'm gonna save the factory fluid that I remove just in case I need to filter it and put it back in. I have 3 quarts of this AMSOIL and I don't want it to go to waste, lol.
