Dyno tune is safer and kinda faster (sorta).
The problem is a dyno is... Unless you own a dyno shop and JUST dyno vettes or JUST dyno vipers or JUST dyno hondas, its very hard to get an accurate, road load simulating dyno. My srt4 was "dyno tuned" to 354whp and 505tq (thanx nitrous), but I drove off the rollers onto the street and difference in load and AFR was instantly different. I had to change the fuel on my drive home.

Dyno's are fun. I like just watching on dyno days/nights. They can really get you a long way starting with a blank sheet of paper on a new engine tune. But the fact they still can't replicate intercooler cooling, they can't perfectly replicate street load. And they are not really cheap to rent by the day, I'd say road tuning is much safer, and since your on the road you drive on, its a perfect match for the load your car is gonna see.

Besides the fact that your limited to a small amount of runs normally, and the car basically sits and heat soaks between passes ( sitting still parked ), the drag strip while datalogging prob is the best. Its safe, controlled, repeatable, and flat. Issue is.... I can get 20 rolling (non-heat soaked) pulls in a night out in the mines with no waiting, no heat soak, no cost, and consistency.

With even stock dyno's for our cars ranging from 190whp to 160whp, its pretty clear that one dyno vs the other is not constant measurement for power vs someone else. But its your looking for bragging rights, I can recommend a shop in So. Cal, lol. But numbers aside, do you want a great tune or bragging rights? Normally not the samething anyway.

If you have the power like access tuner guys do, then street tuning is a great option.

Once my injen intake arrives I will be running a stage 1 tune . Haven't really browse the maps as I just got my AP in the mail last night . Is there a specific map for the injen ?

I just got mine last week (it's awesome).

To answer your question; no, there isn't a specific off the shelf map for an Injen intake. Or any intake. They just have stage 1, 2, and 3 for 91 and 93 octane, and a couple others like a fuel economy one and an anti-theft one (makes the car unable to be driven I'm told). Cobb promotes Cobb parts, but stage 1 uses stock equipment.

When you get that intake post a review - I've had my eye on it once I saw the price tag vs the Cobb intake.

Ok so i think im at a stopping point with performance mods for the time being, and im ready to get a pro tune to optimize my tune for my mods. Who do you guys recommend for a good safe tune? I do want more power but i dont feel like popping an engine. Also i do live about an hour from cobb so cal so, they are an option as well. I do have the access port race if thats a factor. Thanks for the input guys!

I would wait for Panda get back up and running. They have the experience with the Cyborg, thus far.

Just installed the 93oct. Stage 1 map from Cobb. It feels better than I expected. Biggest improvement is now 2nd gear feels great, and the car doesn't fall on its face between shifts.

Custom stage 3 tune by Randy. Tested at 30% better performance than the Cobb OTS Stage 3.

What performance measure are you comparing? That's a pretty massive gain over an OTS stage 3 map.

Time between rpm in 3rd gear. I'm measuring between 4000 and 6300 and using the elapsed time from the logs. I have a Google Spreadsheet I plug the numbers into that gives me a normalized rpm rise per second value I use to compare.

My current best rpm/s is 502.

502 rpm/s is definitely better than my stage 3 OTS log, which was 443 rpm/s given the same general rpm range. Why such a short rpm-range, and what fuel are you using?

The short RPM range was mainly because of the one log I was comparing to at the start of the whole exercise wasn't just a 3rd gear pull. It was 2nd to 3rd to 4th... so 3rd didn't start low enough.

I should probably duplicate the spreadsheet and just use it to measure delta between all of my revisions instead of trying to compare with one log that's a bit different.

Fuel has been 93 octane from Exxon, BP and now Sunoco.

When I look at a broader range from 2715-6520 on my first revision I had a rpm/s of 517. Wow. Log 1 from that same map was 512 over a range from 2713-6472.

It just dawned on me that fuel level is not identical between all of these runs... so there could be a variance in vehicle weight of up to 60#.

That's pretty awesome because it shows you being at the same acceleration rate as my stage 3 FoST, in which I'm seeing 517.3 rpm/s between 2736-6502 rpm (512.1 rpm/s in the other direction from 2726-6521 rpm).

Holy crap, that really puts things in perspective!
