I didn't know they were smaller. Looking at the pics they look exactly the same, right down to the patterns on the backrest. Maybe that's why they didn't go with custom colours for all the seats, 'cause they had to have smaller seats specially made for the FiST, and considering the lower price of the car they just had a custom colour for the premium Molten Orange version?
Not necessarily. Like I said, I firmly believe the US Focus ST Recaros were re-designed compared to their EU counterparts. When the RS came out those style of Recaros (the non clamshell) were put into all US Focus STs, with different colour options. The 2013-2014 Focus Recaros are just slightly wider than the Fiesta ones, and have slightly less thigh bolstering. This is extremely apparent when you switch directly from a FiST with Recaros to a FoST with the "same" seats. the 2015+ (RS Style) seats feel better to sit in long term but are again slightly wider than the Fiesta ones.

The van in that photo is what you guys use instead of pickup trucks. I own a sign shop, and that's why I drive a pickup. I have to carry 4'x8' and 4'x10' panels and ladders and tools routinely, as well as tow a boom lift to the jobsite. If we had to drive on alleyways like that, we'd all drive Transits and Sprinters instead. Plus, where I live, the four wheel drive is a necessity, even in summer. You should see the steep gravel roads and driveways we have to negotiate.
lol I love that description, "alleyway". Admittedly, that's the narrowest part of the road shown in the pic, but the rest of the road behind the camera isn't much wider, and parking spaces line almost the entire length, with the occasional bus stop to make things even worse.

Our city buses are about the same size as your famous school buses, so they take up most of a road that size. It's bad enough when you meet oncoming traffic, but it's a nightmare getting past a bus when you meet one (they're at least every ten minutes). To make things worse, that road serves TWO bus routes!

One side of the road behind the camera is lined with crusty old Victorian houses, which I believe were originally built for workers. If I were on the council I'd knock them all down to make some decent housing, whilst making the road wide enough for modern traffic, but I'm afraid a lot of them are used for student housing, my city being dominated by a university.

The van in the pic is owned by the convenience store that it's parked in front of. It's often got people risking their necks trying to unpack it with cars and busses squeezing by. Again, if I were on the city council I'd buy that entire block and have it demolished in order to make the road wider.

And yes, vans like that are very popular in the UK, mostly because of the weather.

So, if it wasn't because of the size of the FiST, I wonder why they went to all the bother (and expense) of redesigning the seats for it? Could the FoST seats easily fit in the FiST?

What, did they change the fittings at some point then?

The issue is the seat rails have different mountings for the Focus, so you must use the FiST base and rails. the '13-'14 Focus Recaros can be made to work because the seat back will bolt up to the FiST seat base, on the re-designed '15+ seats Ford inverted the way the seat backs attach to the seat bases e.g. the threads for the bolts are not internal to the seatback but rather the seat base, which is the reverse of the old style. Theoretically you can just cut and weld the FiST mounting tabs to the Focus seats, but if done poorly could lead to issues down the road. I always found it interesting that the FiST never got the updated version of the seats.

Thanks for the info. That could prove very handy in the future if I do decide to swap for the FoST colour seats. (y)
