New From Seibon Carbon

Looking for my notes on weights, the wiper does not weigh that much so I put mine back on as it did not look so great with the whole there.

I now have the CF hatch door back on my car.
Everything is mounted/installed except the glass and wing.
That comes Monday.

The Wiper motor, arm, blade, and all hardware is only 3 lbs.
Not a big savings there.

The OE door, stripped of everything but glass is 33.5 lbs.

New glass is to be installed Monday morning and we will weigh the glass before it is installed.
This way we will have the net weight of the OE door.

This install is NOT rocket science.
It will however require two people when the OE door is removed and the CF door set in place.
Other than that it is not difficult.
Just remove everything from the OE door and replace it on the new door.
The only other thing to note is that some adjustments may be required at the hinges and latch for proper fitment.

OK,
Here are the numbers:

CF door is 11.0 lbs.
OE door with glass is 33.5 lbs.
Glass is 8.5 lbs.
That makes the OE door 25 lbs.

Therefore a total savings of 14 lbs., of 17 lbs. without the wiper assy.

Looks like a pretty easy install, one question, glass glued or bolted in?

If you can get them to make it without a wiper hole, it could be part of the mold to mark it for those wanting it or they could have a jig there to cut them or not.......I just might get one when I sell my house

One thing I have seen with hatches but they were much longer ones, the gas struts had to be changed as they started bending the hatches when closed at to much load on the hatch door when closing. This was on another car, good manufacturer, just bringing it up as something to watch out for.

The glass is glued in.

As for the wiper hole.
The hole in the door is NOT the issue, a small plug will take of that.
The problem is the trim/handle.
This trim/handle covers the hole in the door.
This part must be used as it holds the hatch release button and the license lights.
This part is not made or supplied by Seibon.

Now with the door completely reassembled and the loss of only 14 lbs.
The struts seem to work just fine.
Yes they do lift the door easier but it is not with tremendous force.
I do agree it is something to keep an eye on as only time will tell.

It is hard to tell from their photo.
I believe that one has no hole.
Then that would be correct if you wanted to delete the wiper and save another 3 lbs. for about $282.00.

Sorry I don't have the weights or differences yet.
These will come as soon as I get the install complete.
However the list price will be approximately $800.00.

Looks like you can still order it if you’re wanting to do it still, looked into reviews on the seller website and it is apparently legit. Tempted to get one myself eventually since I have hatch rust

I would contact them and check. A lot of places list stuff on their sites that they actually get dropped shipped from the manufacturer. If no one orders they do not update their site info or contact the manufacturer to see if its still being made.
You could order it only to find out its not available anymore.

I would add it does say Prototype on the page. Which is kinda of suspicious as our own D1JL was the person that had the prototype’s if I am not mistaken.

I was really hoping to be right. I’m really not wanting to mismatch my car, but my rust isn’t ideal back there. I might be able to repair it, but it would be easier if I could just replace it with a carbon one. Too bad it never took off like the Focus did
