Fixed the creaking and rubbing issue of the Versus rear diffuser. The mounting height was the culprit. I couldn't figure out the actual rubbing point (turns out it was on the rear anti-sway bar) until we actually took the rear anti-sway bar off. I didn't figure it out until then because they were so close together that it was impossible to see between them without doing that. Did that today with lots of help. The three bolts that mount the diffuser to the single bracket next to the anti-sway bar were clipping it badly going over speed bumps, driveways, or just leaving my garage. You can clearly see, in the second photo, where the driver side and the middle bolt clipped and dug into the sway bar every time they passed by each other. When the car is up on jacks (the only way to I could see under the car) the mounting point is much higher than the resting height while it's on the ground. I didn't know that at the time.

The third bolt (closest to the passenger side) was just....gone. Our best guess is it completely sheared off at some point (red arrow). The other two bolts were still on tight....although I couldn't take them off with the Allen key, as they rubbed down so much that the hole was totally deformed. After we got those off, we pushed the diffuser as high as it would mount. Also, mounting the diffuser on the rear of the bracket, as opposed to the front of the bracket, in order to give just another mm or two extra clearance for the bolts to be away from the sway bar. Now the bolts are much higher and away from the sway bar as you can see the difference between the red line and the yellow line. Took it out for a test drive. Quiet as a quarantined church mouse. Thank God that's dealt with and over. Can't wait for my Vega front splitter to show up!

What I've found in this state is that A LOT of places put their curbing WAY OUT INTO the road, MUCH further than it could ever need to be for ANY reason whatsoever.
It is almost like they are trying to make you curb your loved wheels! [mad]

I clipped a 1 week old rear factory wheel on one of these effing things going to a concert in downtown Wilkes-Barre (Pa.), when the car was just picked up. [?|]

And people around here wonder, and give me crazy looks when I swing WAY OUT into the other lane trying to avoid the 'jetty curb' like this in my local Giant supermarket's parking lot. LOL

Just glad I didnt pop for something more expensive or hard to find at this point. I will order up another from Enjoku this week then I have a spare or a "community" spare that I sell to someone for a deal thats in a pinch.

If this would have been a Compmo or a Braid, or even Speedline I would be having a coronary right now.

Still can't believe I did it. I heard the noise and knew I was not going to be happy.

Today's fun was finalizing the welding - got it done and it's super beefy - heavier than stock but I can at least put my skid plate on and then apply all the down forces I want! Maybe splitter time!













Wish I could weld and or fab anything. This is really cool.

I curbed my left front at a Chicago-area toll booth. I've navigated those toll booths since I was a teenager. Hundreds, if not thousands of times.

There was just something wrong with the concrete pour. The shape of it. It was unlike any other toll booth, ever.

I, of course, have no recourse. Fortunately, it wasn't that bad, but still... That wheel was fine a second earlier.

Honestly it really is a two person job, but when you are pressing up on the clips with a screwdriver you need to pull the cover outwards at the same time. It may take a min but it will eventually come off.
That’s right, they ARE clips. I forgot. What I do remember is how much PITA it was so I gave up and never went back to another attempt. The YT videos made it look very easy, but one of the clips is a bitch and I couldn’t get to it. Was afraid to break it off.

Yeah, that's one of the reasons (among others) I ordered my second set of Dekas today from DTD (along with the A052s, and I got an extra $200.00 off of everything, because; flash sale and customer satisfaction discount).

The Braids I wanted were MORE THAN 3 times the cost of the Dekas, as well as being ~3.5 lbs. heavier each (and the Speedlines almost 5 lbs. heavier each despite only being 16x7s!), and the spokes bow out a bit (a la 17"1.2s) so they are even more susceptible to damage there, vs. the more set-in spokes of the Dekas.
High price to pay for something 'different'. [wink]

I would have bought a spare for each set of Dekas (1 black, 1 bronze), but DTD would only grant that discounted price on a full set of 4, with anything under that amount sold at full list price. [:(]

You need a hook tool to pull out the one clip that is actually a cover over the clip to lock it. After that lift up all three clips with a screwdriver. I applied a lot of pressure with my hand on the inside of the mirror cap going away from the car to pull it off.
In all honesty those indicators are garbage I threw mine in the trash. The fit and finish was shit.
Damn sure not worth breaking anything. They are AutoZone special crap.
