Hey guys! its upgrade time here in good ole bremerton WA, and my magnetic fiST and i where wondering what to do next. honestly just looking for some opinions as im pretty conflicted on which way to go next(full intake or full exhaust, which companies, ETC) so ill start with my current upgrades and we can play a game of what would you do if say you had $1000 to spend on upgrades. any specific reason as to why you would go said route would also be very helpful!

What i currently have on my 2016 magnetic are(try not to laugh, as its not much):
-Cobb RMM
-AP
-Drop in COBB hi flow filter

my goals are, by the end of summer have a 300 wHP car or in that realm. If anyone read my introduction thread to the forum i currently have access to 92 octane (i hate WA), and im stuck here for a while as im in the Navy. IF anyone knows of sites who honor a military discount that'd be good info also.

-Thanks guys!

I would recommend a catless downpipe, intercooler, and GFB DV+ and then a pro tune as that should give you the most power with $1000. We have a 5% military discount at EdgeAutosport.com. Feel free to email or call us and we can help you out!

If you want 300WHP, you are going to need to need to get a hybrid turbo. The Pumaspeed X47 seems to be the most popular. There is plenty of good information on this forum to get to the power level you want and what supporting modifications you need. The larger intercooler and downpipe seem to be must-haves for the larger turbo.

I also recommend getting a good set of summer tires. These are a great summer tire: https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tire...5WR6FHI5&vehicleSearch=false&fromCompare1=yes

%100 im gonna be doing something by the end of summer as far as an upgrade to the turbo. ive read a ton on here the last week or so on the x37-47R and i feel like ill go that route when it comes, maybe i should have specified more but i was asking more about where to start. downpipe and FMIC are more then likely where i will goto start, but out of curiousity is there any specific brands you know of or would recommend 1)to keep me in my budget 2)based on performance and longevity. those tires look like they would be a good fit also once the autocrossing season rolls around here in my area. Thanks for the help!

just one question, about the DV. Be it this seams to me (a noob) just a redesigned stock DV made out of better materials, does this DV show for any performance or throttle response gains? Thanks for the help! and also for supporting the troops!

For $1000 I would get a Pierce 6pt bar and a trunk brace, and a gen5 Glock 19.

The car doesn't need a hot air intake or full exhaust at this level. They are not restrictions; the turbo is the restriction.

It will eliminate the delay you get before building boost after a fast shift. The stock DV stays open too long after shifting and just wastes air so your turbo doesn't spool right away. It should also help the car feel more smooth in general while building boost.

Most have already mentioned it all, but with the 5% discount and the customer service, you'll be hard pressed to find better deals for NEW parts than shopping at Whoosh. Sometimes some parts pop up used for great prices (Like CPE Intercoolers), but it depends on what your constraints are with warranties for the parts you buy, etc. My personal advice:

Whoosh Intercooler
Whoosh Downpipe (your choice of catless, or catted should be here soon)
GFB DV+ (Benefits now and it transfers over as long as you plan on running a hybrid, holds rock solid on my X37)
Flash tune from Strat/Dizzy/PurpleDrank/JST/Etc (This should net plenty of performance until you get the hybrid and get a full pro-tune)

Should leave you with about $150 out of the $100 budget and might as well pocket that for now unless you want to get some things such as an induction hose, crossover pipe, charge pipes, etc. but those aren't really necessary. If you really want to spend it though and you explore options other than go fast stuff, some type of chassis brace would be great, TBPerformance and Pierce make great products. Or some used Mountune Springs if you can stumble across them.

Good luck either way! the Hybrids make the car an absolute riot to drive!

I definitely appreciate this insight as the hybrid x37-47r is exactly what i would like to do! what are your takes on intake? it seams drop in filter isnt a bad option. i already have the cobb one, do you think its necessary to get a full intake replacement?

For me, I've had a handful of turbo cars over the years and I don't need the extra noise, so I went with an ST200 airbox, ramair induction tube, ramair filter. Induction tube necessary, probably not, but I like the visual appeal more than the stock tube. I MAY also pick up the ramair crossover pipe, just not sure yet.

Most say the intake that yields the most benefit will be either the 2JRacing cowl intake or the ITG Maxogen, but both of them are faaaar too loud for my liking. Similar with exhaust, most aren't seeing any proportional gain from exhausts, so I was going to be content just running a quiet 2.5" system. I managed to find a great deal on a 3" Mongoose, so if that sounds good and isn't crazy loud, I'll keep it or else I'll sell it off.

Realistically you also have to plan around your preferences. Do you want the added noise and attention? Some love the sounds, I used to also. If it wasn't my daily, it wouldn't be as big of an issue. That's why the MR2 in the garage is 3" exhaust no cats, HKS BOV, 4" intake, etc. If you decide you'd like an intake, many like the CP-E for overall appeal and performance. I had a Cobb intake for awhile and liked the molded plastic piping to help limit heat retention. But a lot of that is preference.

From what i have gathered on the stock turbo...
Drop in filter>intercooler>flash tune. After that if you need more turbo upgrade>downpipe>custom tune. Maybe intake and exhaust if you want noise.

I have a drop in filter and intercooler, next up is a tune. When i get bored of that then a turbo upgrade will happen.

okay so after looking into this now the past week, and after all your great perspectives, i feel like the following parts are going onto my car, within the next few weeks (i also wanted to point out that i also already have the RMM from Cobb)

Whoosh Intercooler
GFB's DV+
Mishimoto's oil catch can
Symposer delete ala Whoosh
Aaaaaaand maybe more..

I decided because i have the cobb drop in filter, i will stay with that for now instead of doing another intake mod. does anybody maybe have recommendations for a DP or any other mods in the 300ish range that would go well?. Whoosh has one coming out soon or out already and is priced handsomely to keep this whole build under 1000 bucks, but idk anything about the fitment for that or at least heard of any verified usage. its whoosh so im sure its great.
might also do the front strut tower and trunk brace. idk. open to opinions and any advice!

thanks guys

Check out Damonds OCC....read the reviews about mishi's bracket breaking....even though they have an updated bracket....food for thought.

FWIW, I'm using a Cobb intake and TBE, Velossa Tech snorkel, x37, CPE FMIC, Quaife diff, Mountune short shift, Meister R coilovers, plus a bunch of miscellaneous cosmetic parts. Of course an AP3 with a custom tune. The car passes our OBD2 inspection with no problems. I've had the x37 for a couple of years; no inclination to upgrade, but if I were buying now the x47 would be a no-brainer.

Was about to say the same, I sold my mishimoto catch can and purchased a Damond, I like it a lot more.

As for fitment on the downpipes from Whoosh, I've only really read good things. You could get a catless now if that's the route you wanted to go, or wait a little bit for the catted version. Either way, solid choices!

If you do get a Damond...get the hose sleeves....I'm sure they might even come with the kit now. They are used to prevent chaffing of the rubber on vibrating engine parts and the heat.

Get an IC and put the rest towards your turbo.

And if you are absolutely bent on spending the whole $1000 buy some suspension mods
