Wilwood Brake System almost killed me today. Do not use Street pads on the Track!

If he blew his seals, he should be able to rebuild his calipers, especially if Brembo will not help. Zeckhausen racing has all of the parts necessary to fix a Brembo setup for less than most places. I used them for my Mustangs caliper rebuild.
Thanks for the recommendation. I saw that they didn't have any parts for Wilwood. I went on Summit and ordered new seals and new pistons all the way around. After browsing some DIY's, it seems straight forward on how to rebuild them. I think that I am going to have more trouble bleeding the whole system, as it is all dry, than reassembling the calipers.

And they should be pretty easy to rebuild.

If the rotors are scuffed up a bit you can just use them, the new pads will smooth them out, if grooved they can be surfaced unless really deep or run like they are and the pads will wear to fit the grooves.

Some might find that a bit unsettling to consider but I have seen it done many times and never known of a problem.
The rotors are completely scored from the backings of the pads rubbing against them. The bigger OD pistons on each caliper ate all the way through the backs of the brake pads and started to score the rotors. I can donate them to you if you want them [wrenchin]

I ordered it through 2JR racing. I paid about $1000 for red calipers with cross drilled rotors. He cut me a deal with the exhaust and race downpipe from him too. Stand up guy.

Joes website also lists several alternative pads to choose from: BP10, 20, 40 and Polymatrix E. Polymatrix E is recommended for light track duty, while BP40 is recommended for intermediate track duty. I personally wouldn't use BP10 or 20 on a race track. Check out some aftermarket pads for the WW brakes. I picked up my Wilwood package this Monday for $699.00+ came out to 865.00 when pads and lines and shipping are included. I ordered the polymatrix pads, and will order track pads later.

As an FYI for others, you can get them through TCE for under $900 shipped with red calipers and upgraded Spec 37 rotors.

BP40's are nuts for this car. BP30 is all you should need. They work great on track, all day long. If you are looking at wilwood pads.

I'm definitely taking my portable jack and cordless impact with me next time! I'll be going to Laguna Seca in Janurary, will you be going?
Jack stands too. Extra set of brake pads. ;)

I only track at Thunderhill and Buttonwillow. I try to stay away from tracks with walls. I have enough fun at those two tracks and it forces me to not go crazy on too many track events and go broke.

Good advice about staying away from tracks with walls, they are car killers unless you want to pussy foot around which to me is not the point of going to the track!

I would advise to never buy drilled rotors for the track, only slotted or plain and the GT rotors are best by far.

Harbor Freight has nice cheap aluminum jacks and aluminum stands, low weight, easy to haul around, I have 4 of their jacks, use them all the time:)

My next set of track pads will be BP30 but I might try some 40's when it get's hot out, I use my brakes hard and have 225 DOT race tires and later will have super sticky TT tires and brake even later and harder. I will have a chat with WW about the pads before ordering 40's though, at a couple of racer buddies with huge experience.

Well the Wilwood site is sayin that the BP30 is for Race Only..... so what about the Poly E pads? the site is saying that those would be good for street/track use.

Dont rule out Streets of willow, Long way to go but pretty decent little track. That big track is a bit fast though..

I think Thill is probably going to be the hottest track now that they finished the expansion. Anyone run it yet? I havent been up there in probably 10 years.

I will be running both of those next year, not sure when yet but will be there:)

I might need the 40 compound on fast tracks, in the heat.....as mentioned, I have not talked to WW about it yet, been busy with cooling and weight reduction mods.

Wilwood publishes all the CF and temp plots for their pads. You can easily pick out ones that will work for track and for street.

The E's will be MUCH worse on track than the BP-20's:

Sorry, I have to vent a bit and post something to watch out for on WW, the info above it possibly not correct on the BP20 pads.

From their site

----------------

BP-20

Compound Data Sheet
Use & Caution:

Medium friction, highest effective temperarture range in medium temperature pad group.
Smooth engagement, torque curve increases in relation to temperature
Moderate wear rate at high temperature
Street Use OK

Application:

Medium to heavy braking dirt tracks.
Advanced level track day and club sport competition.
Extreme duty dual-purpose street/track vehicle.
High speed or heavy weight drag cars.
Hobby or sportsman category asphalt racing

-----------------

I talked to one race shop and one brake company and WW and they all said the BP20 is for a guy building a street rod, not to dirty, works well, etc...not a race pad at all but look what they say on the site:(

I have had many sets of brakes and WW always has done the job very well, low cost, great performance, they just seem to have a problem with listing some pads correctly.

I spent over $440 getting front and rear pads over nighted to me, Carbotechs, instead of the proper WW as in BP30 or maybe 40 for my particular build because it was to late to get WW on time and I thought I had the right pads until it was posted here how the BP20 melted on the track.

Which is the reason I posted the Cf vs Temp plots that they publish. THAT is how you choose pads.

Edited to be more clear, had a few brews after a long day in the shop:)

---------------------

You are correct, mostly, WW site says they are track day pads and I was told they were when I bought the front BBK to mod to fit my wheels so I did not look them up.

Later I found out they are not track pads though they claim they are on their site.

So you cannot always go by their charts if they cannot get that right;)

---------------------

They are very busy with big contracts for the military, one reason one brake vendor I know changed to a different brand as could not get what he needed when needed quite often, that was a couple of years ago, we are still "at war" it seems.

My factory brakes with factory pads worked great at the track yesterday. I also have 14lb wheels though.

Just got my calipers rebuilt (bought new seals and pistons all the way around, didn't want to take any chances) and got some new slotted 37 Spec GT rotors. Gonna wait until the morning when I can get my neighbor to help me bleed the brakes. I ended up buying some BP10 pads for the street and will change to BP30 for the track when I go next month.

I have a brand new set of BP30's, unused that I will sell since I will no longer be tracking this car if you want them
