Hi everyone, I am looking for a reliable rear mounted bicycle rack that can hold up to 3 bikes for my 2015 Ford Fiesta 1.0L Ecoboost SE hatchback. Any advice appreciated.
Many thanks
While I agree with getting a hitch and a hitch mounted rack.....it still would be kinda sketchy to carry 3 bikes on a class 1 hitch. Max tongue weight on a class 1 hitch is 200lbs so you might be pushing it carrying around 3 bikes on there. Unless you have 3 carbon frame bikes, lol.
I currently have a hitch and a Kuat Sherpa 2.0 rack on the FiST. While carrying two 30ish lbs bikes, they move a round more than I thought it would. The movement comes from the mounting points of the hitch to the car and not the actual rack/bikes.
One thing I noticed after seeing that thread, is just how puny the hatch's hinges are... especially given that there are strong negative pressures sucking at the rear hatch for highway speeds, and a mounted spoiler. Look at the trunk lid hinges on any sedan car and they're far more substantial. While they may have been engineered with enough overhead, I'd rather not chance having to mess with distorted hinges as a result of a bike rack.
The trunk lid on my previous vehicle (a sedan) was a little distorted, but I suspect at some point a neighborhood kid thought the rack was a gymnastics pommel horse.
