Got the rest of the gears pressed off the countershaft for the final drive conversion. Just need to bring home some snap ring pliers to strip the rest of the parts from the old shaft and transplant to the new shaft. I HOPE to get the parts I need to complete the transmission in the next couple weeks. The LSD installation is also complete. Just waiting on new bearings at this point.

^^^Are you going for different gearset ratios (IF they even exist for the IB6es at all [dunno]), or just a different final drive ring and pinion?
Just the final drive. 3.78 to 4.35

Requires changing the ring gear on the differential and both pinion gears which are on both countershafts.
The secondary countershaft(reverse) has been swapped(back right in the pic), it's just waiting on new bearings.
I'm also replacing all the bearings while I'm at it. Even though this transmission is supposedly from a 2017 with only 4000 miles on it, I'd rather put all new bearings for peace of mind. I'd hate to get it all together only to have to take it back apart

Did the Trans mount and it was a pita compared to the Pas mount.Lol.And i think i messed up something with the battery plate at the bottom as my battery box looks a little tilted to the left.Took this plastic piece out as it was pushing at the intake elbow.

great weekend of autocross and karting.
Saturday - first event I've done at NE Ohio event. Kind of a worn out lot, tight course at ~30 sec. Co-drove my Fiesta w/ a buddy who is a really good driver and has a Fiesta as well. Video here:

Sat Night - karting night at Boss Karting in Cleveland

Today (Sunday) - Ran with Akron Sports Car Club at Dragway 42 in my Scion - Great venue. was able to break into top 25 (out of 140?) in PAX, so I'm happy with my performance for only its second autocross. The FRS continues to amaze me. What an awesome and easy car to drive at the limit. I'm going to build it up for SSC competition I think.

With as much rubbing as we had yesterday in the Fiesta, I've decided to finish out the season focusing solely on the Scion for autocross. Fiesta will retire for daily driver/car show/mountain run duties for rest of 2020.

We rubbed the fenders raw to the bare metal yesterday. Not a big deal to me bc its not noticeable, but the car just needs a little more attention to run the wheel/tire setup I have effectively. I am destroying the tires up front.

So the plan for fall/winter in preparation for 2021 is to do:
  • Install the LSD, clutch, and flywheel I have sitting in the garage
  • Sell off the Bilstein PSS coilovers and upgrade to something with less drop (KW V3 at top of my list)
  • Roll Fenders
  • Dial in more camber up front
  • Install rear camber plates

It all started with a burned out right brake light. Obviously the pair had to be replaced with LED's. And reverse lights too.

And then came LED's for all the interior lights and license plate. So cheap and simple, but makes me so happy. The license plate lights are so bright, I almost have underglow!

It's funny how something so inexpensive and simple can bring so much joy lol.
BTW, nice to see another Performance Blue in Florida.

At the dealership today getting a blend door actuator for the 2nd time.

Mountune radiator and induction hose arrived yesterday. Shifter extension from Latheworks and a FoST carbon knob due later this week. Going to be a fun weekend

Installed the ST200 airbox from Ron @whoosh.

Pretty straightforward, except that it took me a bit longer since I opted to not disconnect the intake hose from the crossover pipe, and had to work around everything to finagle the box into place.

The only challenge I see for me now is finding a permanent way to route the cold air hose to either a duct in the factory 'air dam', or into an inlet in the fog light housing/trim piece, since I have a Skid Plate Guy bash plate which is usually, (when there are ARA rallies being held in 'normal' times) on the car about half the year, and it tucks up under, and behind that air dam piece. [:(]

But Ron is correct, the ST200 'kit' is ALL INCLUSIVE (box, hose & clamp, and new factory inlet snorkel, air filter, and attached MAF sensor)!! [twothumb]

I ziptied mine too the cold side charge pipe, but there's a lot of stuff you should have space to latch onto

I have the mountune intake and just stuffed the cold air feed into the space above the fog light

Why would you go to a lower final gear ratio? This car already burns the tires off in 1st and 2nd with any power boost. I would think going the opposite direction would be more beneficial so you could hit 60 without the shift to 3rd. Maybe a 3.55 or higher. This is an honest question, no negativity of any kind intended here. Genuinely curious to learn more about this.

Glad to answer. It's basically "free" torque. An increase of 8.7% at any given time. Ever heard of guys in rear wheel drive cars/trucks changing the rear axle ratio? Same thing.

I don't care about 0-60 times. I like to keep my drivetrain intact. I'm not a hard launching kind of guy. 3rd and 4th gear is where I have the most fun.

The change in final drive ratio will improve the useable power in all gears, except first, of course.

Countless times I have imagined myself feeling like I need to shift to second going through certain corners but keeping it in 3rd anyway. This setup will keep me in the powerband more frequently and I will also have to shift less during normal everyday driving.

I am aware the car will run higher RPMs on the highway when cruising but I don't really use this car for long trips. Plus, at 80mph I'll be out of the drone "range" of my exhaust.

Here is a chart of the MPH/RPM in each gear, compared with both ratios. This is with stock tire diameter. I think if you just take a moment and study this chart to compare between both ratios, you will see the benefits of the 4.35 ratio compared to the stock 3.82.

Hopefully I answered well enough for you?

And, I'll just drop this here:

Well written and thank you. I understand the principal and it sounds like you have thought this through. I have often thought of going the other direction to make 2nd more usable where you plan to use 3rd. I know going to a lower gear is beneficial for trucks especially if go to a larger tire size or are towing. It is also beneficial if you have a low torque engine like in a S2000 or BRZ/FRS/86. it can really help acceleration in those. To my thinking, since we have soo much torque, this would just add more wheelspin but I'm interested to see how this works out for you. Perhaps the LSD will negate most of the issue. Which brand did you go with? Sorry if I missed it earlier in the post. I wish you the best of luck and I look forward to your review once you have some seat time with it. (y)
