Does Safelite offer the (obviously higher co$t) option to use the OEM Ford factory glass instead of their stuff for this service??
Wasn't an option that I saw when setting up the appt. I thought about that for about 2-3 seconds then dismissed it as I dont have factory nav and Safelite uses OEM or OEE glass for their replacements (buying in bulk drives their price down). And of course the lifetime warranty, so I'm not gonna worry too much about it nor complain later if something does go awry lol.. I know what im signing up for. this is a 3rd car btw, so again, not as worried about it.

Edit: This is straight from Safelite's site:

What is the difference between OEM and OEE auto glass?
Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) auto glass is made by the same manufacturer as your original glass. Original Equipment Equivalent (OEE) auto glass is made to the same standards, but by a different manufacturer. Our customers can choose OEM or OEE prior to service by calling 800-800-2727.

Ill make the call and see what's what.

Update: I made the call.. get this.. the OEM was CHEAPER lolol.. by about $55. So now it's $325 OTD (inc. tax). They just have to order it from the dealer since they dont have this one in their local (to me) warehouse.. She said normally the OEM is more expensive (vehicle dependent) and that insurance companies will never cover it (which is probably why ppl complain about their glass sucking lol).. Since I'm paying out of pocket (no need to rile up Geico for this shit, lol) I get a discount on the OEM glass. Pretty nice..

Edit: and thanks for asking the question. Good chance I wouldn't have 'dug deep' without your prompt.. Mucho Mahalo (yes, I know it's two different languages, lol)

Yes, I am also considering doing this out of pocket as well.

That despite the fact that I pay for an added premium rider on my comprehensive and collision insurance specifically so that actual, real, OEM parts can and will be used if needed.

Thank YOU for checking this out! [thumb]

So the tech finally made it and informed me that replacing the weatherstripping ISNT part of the windshield replacement.... I asked their call center folks 4 times if it was and they all said yes, lol.. The tech said that on newer cars, the weatherstripping is part of the windshield, so that might be what they were confused about.. Will be going the DIY route as the price they quoted me to replace the 3 pieces of weatherstripping was more than the damn windshield lol ($380).

One piece of advice on putting the side weatherstrips on: start at the top as it hooks in. I had a tech start from the bottom (twice!) and by the time they get to the top, they snap off the hook and the whole shebang eventually blows off on the freeway.
