Dayton Audio ES180Ti-8 7" Esoteric Series Woofer 8 Ohm

Decent weight, decent cost(I also get them wholesale which helps even more) and very very good specs, should be an incredible speaker.

No worries about being 8 ohm, rather difficult to explain exactly but it is far less important than it may seem, especially if you have 150 watts for each, even my tweeters will get that much but of course will only use a bit of it but more power means more dynamic range, more accurate response, 8 ohms can actually sound better than the same driver if a 4 ohm version...not always but it happens.

I am going to order a set and give them a try, I am considering the matching tweeter though I can get small great tweeters in range I like what I see and I am considering mounting the tweeters where the little side dash windows are so plenty of room. I am all about weight savings but somethings I can work with it the performance is there.

I build audiophile systems even in my street/track cars, sound deaden, etc but have learned over the decades how to do it for reasonable cost, low weight, superb sound, etc....and I will pass on what I learn doing this car the right way.

----------

I have been a competitor, judge, specialized in sound deadening with tens of thousands of fellow enthusiasts coming to me for advice, been published, know many of the all time top people in the industry, etc....and still there are those that know an incredible amount more than I do, I may be at or very near the top in deadening experience but not in all things audio, there is always more to learn, that keeps it fun:)

We can have a killer system for a very decent price and not ruin the car and my sub, amp and processor will be modular to come out easily for the track anyway. Deleted rear speakers, just mids and tweets up front, not much more wiring, very careful and low weigh deadening, with all the weight I have taken out of the car I will be around 150 lbs lighter than stock even with the system installed and can take it out if I wish.

Me too:)

It will be a little while before I can get to it, winding up 6 months worth of mods, audio is the last one.

They will be outstanding, so much so you have to have great source material, processor to tune with, good amps, etc...to really hear how they will sound.

Man, the frequency response under 2k Hz is incredible. Will be a great component of your system i bet.

What crossover point would you use for these drivers?

I like to run the lowers crossover point I can in a vehicle with the tweeters mounted up high, cross firing directly at each other if in the A pillars 2" higher than the tallest part of the dash in most cases but this car design would allow a bit lower. I am going to experiment with using the little window areas and aimed up a bit first though. I wire the tweeters out of phase with the mids in this setup.

I like the matching tweeter as it plays very low though I usually run smaller drivers than they are but check out the build on my old Tacoma. I was still building a new console cover and kick panel trim, miniature Recaros to match the front seats but they wanted to shoot the car right away for the 7 page Mobile Entertainment article on the the site.

http://http://www.raamaudio.com/pages/Customer-Vehicles.html

I will also test the mids out of phase with each other but normally that is something to test when doing kick panels with the mids and tweets down there but that is not happening in this highly modded little street/track monster I am building)

Yeah I'm watching..... Trying to figure out what I'm going to do myself.... Don't want to add much weight... Normally I'd just slap a single din active Hu in and....... But this is my first new car and all the integrated crap..... Plus I'd like to keep a stock appearance on the interior of this car..... Would like a sub stage but not the weight.... I have a 12" xcon just laying around and a fi q motor I need to recone..... I'm maybe I'll throw the q in for a home theater sub and put the xcon in my wife's fusion where I'm not as concerned about the weight..... But maybe I'll decide I can deal with the weight in the st.... Ughhhhhhh

Or maybe say screw stock appearance, shove some sls 8s in the door and glass some full Rangers in and figure out processing........ Ughhhh decisions.....

KISS is my plan, simple but great, not going to compete but want a good if not perfect sound stage, low weight, low cost, etc......

I had an Arc PS8 but overkill, bought a Bit 10 but found a deal on the lower cost, lower end version of the PPI processor so going to try it out, I have two but may sell one.

Was also going to use the KS Mini amps as class H and I really like the size, weight, etc but decided to try the new XDi V2 1100.5, never been a D class fan but they are getting better.

I used to only use Arc, ID and some Hybrid but these speakers seem to be an incredible value and I need the low depth.

I am looking into lower weight but higher output, great SQ subs, for cheap! I have the Arc BL 12, far to big and heavy, the 10 is not much lighter, the regular Arc 10 is pretty decent and low cost and I have a few. I also have 6 ID 15's, I if I want nuts bass, one of those upfiring......I can built a very very low weight enclosure, best weight to size and strength was in my Scion TC, 2.0 cubs, 20 lbs empty and a lot of work.

Does anyone know what are the max dimensions of the door speakers? Or can someone tell me if these will fit? I can't find this information at all.

Soundstream SC-6T 6 1/2 in. component speakers
Top-Mount Depth 2-1/4"
Bottom-Mount Depth 2-1/2"

I just looked the SS above up and found some pretty negative reviews, they could be a step down from stock even, some do not really know what really good speakers should sound like so I read the best professional reviews I can find and DIY reviews from trusted sources.

In general, car audio branded speakers are highly marked up, the mids I have shown would be in something like a $799 to $999 component set.

The best deals are super closeouts on well rated speakers or use home audio raw drivers but they have certain values we have to look at to make them viable.

You do not have to spend a great deal but cannot expect much of if any gain, sometimes loss, if you do not buy really good speakers.

With low weight a requirement there are simply very few choices and not really low cost but very good values can be found.

I was considering this very low weight speaker, great specs but the QTS is a bit low for a car door use so I was looking at adding a resistor to increase it but have never had to do that so I would have to dig in more, test them as well but the new Dayton came out and I just had to get a pair:)

These are only $79 each and 1.65 lbs!

The Dayton drivers have better specs for a car door use, not perfect, but I have ways to get around that.

-----------------------

TaylorFade mentions the Vifa XT19 tweeter, I have a really old pair that were rebranded as Alpine(very common in car audio to see this) i am pretty sure you cannot find another driver this small, low weight and superb performance for the money. I would likely prefer them in the A pillars but they would still be a significant improvement over stock and just $19 each!

--------------------

Deeper speakers can be used, some posts have been made about that, search for TaylorFade as he has done it.

-------------------

He also pointed out a new speaker coming out soon that looks incredible but has less desirable specs than the Dayton, I am likely to order as soon as released to test them out.

While on the subject, I might have to try their really cool sub.

-------------------------------------------------

I could probable get some sort of GB going on some of these speakers, I have a wholesale account at one source and could get one at the other most likely, I would have to look into requirements to do this as I would want to save everyone as much as I could possibly do. I am not nor plan to be a vendor so have to work within the site rules as well of course.

I do not normally look at 5.25" speakers but decided to and this one may be an incredible budget upgrade value at around $20 each.

I will do some research on it.

This 6.5 looks promising as well, I have read some reviews, will have to look into it, only $18 or so.

I have not opened my doors yet but have seen some pics of fairly deep speakers installed using mounting rings that push them in closer to the door panel so the can fit.

Mounting rings are really not that hard to make, just need a drill and a jig saw.

Look at TaylorFade thread, page 5, he used some pretty deep looking mids with rings.
