I'd like to hear Adam chime in. It seems a tune helps, but may not be required? I have bad boost surge on shifts.
Doing a search of this thread, Adam himself says that it is required. The spring is a different strength (stronger) than the original and boost/vacuum that is out of spec from what the ECU commands can put you in limp mode or worse.

Adam himself has already stated that a tune is required or you will throw an engine code.

As for Euro spec, you guys are MAF controlled rather than MAP so that might be a whole other can of worms when it comes to tolerances.

At any rate, why would you get this without doing the Tune+ lifetime tune? You get the real benefit of this IWG controller with his tuning... And a lifetime tune is just that. He can tune for anything, bolt-ons, cyborg, ethanol, meth, big turbo, Everything. Easiest the most bang for the buck mod I've paid for is the lifetime tune from Adam.

A stronger wastegate such as this one will make the car over boost if not tuned properly. And if you have boost surge you will definitely need a tune to stop that.

He gives you a base map for the wastegate when you purchase to install directly after the installation. Then if you do decide to go with his tune, which I highly recommend, you start the data logging process and get the even more dialed in.

Thanks guys. I do plan to get a tune from him soon. I have a transmission issue I want to get sorted out under warranty and then I plan to go stage 2 with a custom tune. I was just hoping I could sneak by for now with this iwg to solve the boost surge I get.

has anyone written a how to installation on one of these? im curious on the actual steps and whats the best way to go about changing the wastegate? can you do the whole install from the top? do you have to take off the fender liner?

You can do it from the top, but it is a PITA. Best bet is to remove the cowl which means you have to remove the wipers, intake, heatshield and headlights (to remove cowl). Takes around 1 1/2 hours the first time. There is very little room to work with. Try to get a diagram of the heatshield and turbo so you know which screws to remove. First time I did it, I accidentally removed the screw to the oil return line and almost blew my engine when I drove it and all the oil came out while driving. Luckily I shit it down quick enough to avoid any engine damage.

How much have you worked on your car? Are you already familiar with removing the wipers, headlights, cowl, and intake? After that and before removing the heatshield so you can access the WGA, I suggest removing the two hard coolant lines as well.

You will lose a quart or so of coolant, and be ready to have something to catch that as well as more fluid to replace what is lost. After that the WGA is exposed and it's as easy as unbolting the old, setting in the new, and reversing that process.

If we have one of the Turbosmart WGAs, do you have a good guess on where it should be set to avoid guess work? I'm really late to this thread so if it's been mentioned I apologize.

I totally would want one of these but I see they aren't being made anymore. I'd use Adam as a tuner, too.

Any one selling one of these?? The install doesn't seem too bad.

I'd be looking for this specific one unless the Turbosmart is more or less identical. Thanks for letting me know.

Ideally there'd be another group buy on these...
