For you guys that got the heat shield off... I've got no idea how I'll get this pos back on... Took 2 hours of wiggling and prying. Thank you to the guys that bore with my stupidity.
Not intending to divert this thread, and I ask because of the top factory heat shield being such a PITA to deal with and it keeps coming up.
Q - Does anyone have a thermal temperature gun that they can use to take a reading of the exhaust manifold? What is the hottest that the FiST stock exhaust manifold can get?
Perhaps something like the following would be a better solution and would make it less of a pain to work on the car AFTER we remove the top factory heat shield? It's approved for 750F fabric side and 2000F heat reflective, so the fabric side would be on the manifold.
Busy week at work last week...finally got up early and installed the IWA. Easy day For anyone who has never done this, I recommend using the factory nuts and clip on the rod itself.
Also to note... I modified my heat shield a little...making it significantly easier to remove and install the shield. I'm not recommending this...its just what I did.

Lol, I like it and didn't even think of doing this. I am going to purchase a thermal temperature gun and read the "naked" manifold hot and then I will modify my stock heatshield as you did, install it, and then read the surface temp of that when hot.
So I don't detract this thread any further, I'll create a new thread and share my findings.
I finished my project too... Took all night because I had a lot of trouble getting the heat shield on. I also managed to lose a bolt to the heat shield. Wonder if I can order those bolts from the ford catalogue. Anyway, I managed to get two bolts in on the heat shield and it looks like it's mostly on... How flush does it have to be against the car to function properly?
That mod you did looks great. I might just buy a new shield and cut it as you did. Thank you for the idea.
Also, the bottom retaining nut on the wastegate is scary to thread on... Especially after already losing a heat shield bolt in the engine bay.
Just make sure if you do cut the heat shield that you sand down and de burr the metal where you cut it....if not you may be visiting the ER cause the metal where you cut will be sharp. I wish that you could actually see this IWA installed on our cars. It look good, just hidden.
Is there any issue with the heat shield not being perfectly flat? Mine sticks out a little from the missing screw and the pulling. If I had known the manifold is only 18 dollars online I would have just cut the old one out and done a mod to the replacement. I found it easier to put in than take out... But it didn't go back to normal got wise either.

Which screw are you missing? All in all, as long as it is secure and not rubbing against anything...especially the lines (coolant and oil) to the turbo and wiring in the area... You should be fine. Any increased gaps from where the shield used to be may or may not allow for increased heat in the area.
Tune+, Adam.. So far so good. The tune you sent me last week for the IWA feels good...at least at idle and light driving. Haven't went WOT yet. I will be getting you a log within a day or two. Pic below for fun ;-).

Well you do have to get in it for the datalogs, lol. I personally monitor my data on the accessport while I'm bring the car to the proper OAR to make sure nothing crazy is going on with the part.
Ok I installed this today finally. Went for a ride and got oar to -1 then did a quick pull till 5500rpm in 3rd boost peaked at 25psi and the 5500 boost was still at 20psi. Before this boost would peak maybe in weird days at 23psi. Now I did notice something weird and would like some input from tve more knowledgeable guys. Sometimes at part throttle o can hear like ir the bypass valve would stay open. Is this normal? Or maybe the ECU needs more time to adjust or whatever.

I'm sure that Adam will look it over once you do the datalog for it. Make sure you mention it to him when you send the log. Without being able to hear what you are experiencing...I can't really give you an answer.

Everyone else, thank you for sharing your pictures and thoughts so far. I have been VERY busy lately with many different projects and lining up all the sponsors for my Ecoboost Mustang Drag build.
I sold a TON of Fiesta E-tunes this weekend, looks like I'm going to be a busy busy guy!
Sundays are for myself though, I have been in the garage all morning. Feel's GREAT!
