I've had a whine in 6th gear since I got my ST 2 1/2 years ago. I did a 2-1 shift on a pull last June and it started whining in every gear. Something just let loose inside today just cruising. I pulled into a parking lot to see if any fluid was leaking out. Trying to reverse out of the parking spot it was bogging a bit until something clunked and it it rolled back freely. I limped it home, but on the way I noticed the noise only occurred with the clutch engaged and was quiet with it disengaged. I was going to get a low milage trans (Mine has 115 on it) and get an LSD installed. This thread has me a little spooked though.
I've grown to live with it. Its stayed the same volume for the past 30k miles/3-4ish years with numerous tracks days on it too. I'd figure if something was wrong it would've happened by now

Yes this has gone past the whine to a full blown failure. You can move it, but it gets hung up at a point until it frees up again.

Ill bet it was something to do with the DMF* Dual Mass Flywheel. Drain the fluid into a clean basin and run a magnet through it or use a cheesecloth and stain the fluid through it and look for metal particles.

I think mine is shot, too. It makes a grinding sound when turning the wheel while on a lift and sounded like a rock to metal scratching sound when driving on any speed. Should I get a Clark or go with Pumaspeed?

Not diagnosing, but I went with Clarke, am poorer but happy. I read into postings with pumaspeed stories, good&bad, went to Clarke. Stringent core policy. And you remind me - time for a BG fluid change.

I still don't understand why Clarke doesn't recommend the shift linkage mounted short throw shifters. So many people use them and have 0 problems.

Just like how he doesn't recommend anything but FOMOCO Trans fluid even if the Mftr. meets the Spec of FOMOCO*
