The road to POWER - checklist

I'm planning to at least double the base power of my FiST, so I'm looking at 400HP or so on pump gas. I know a lot of work is going to be involved and it's only going to get more and more expensive, but that is my end goal.

I already planned most of my mods with what I read around here, but I'd like to check with people that are more knowledgeable than me regarding this subject.

So what I already have:
Cobb AP (duh), AWR RMM 88a, Mishimoto J-line FMIC, K&N hi-flow filter, VT Big mouth. I also have the stage 3 TB performance bar coming in today.

So I'm in OTS stage 2 territory right now. Here is what I'm planning to get in the near future:
Whoosh Catted Downpipe (or similar, I like the full 3 inches)
Thermal cat back (or similar)

This would bring me to OTS stage 3 and at this point I'm planning to get a tune from another vendor (like stratified or tune+) as I read they are much better than Cobb's tunes.

I believe all of the above will be able to support my 400HP goal while giving me good stage 3 performance. Here is what I'm planning for my 400HP goal in terms of power mods:
Forged rods and pistons (Mountune or anyone else)
GTX2867R or GTX2863R (any other option is welcome)
Upgraded clutch and lightweight flywheel
Aux fuel system (most likely stratified)

Doesn't seems much, but I know those things are super expensive to buy and install. Am I missing something?

Power will get to the ground through better tires, suspension upgrade, traction bars and LSD, so hopefully this will help.

I have not seen any other threads similar to this (other than build threads).

To be able to hit that 400whp mark on pump gas.....
You will need to eliminate restrictions. Oem Intake needs to go and that j line Intercooler won't do it either. On a stock turbo I would heat soak that intercooler on track in 4 laps.

You are going to need a big turbo to do it on 91 or 93 octane. With an ethanol mixture of race gas you will be able to do it much easier with less lag.

I pretty much maxed out the stock fuel system with 110 octane with a built motor running 11:1 compression with the x47 making over 330 whp. On 91 I couldn't get past 260 due to knock. There is a limit on what pump gas can do....

I thought the J-line FMIC could handle close to 500? I guess if needed at this point I'll look at something better then something like the pro alloy (if it fits the crash bar or replaces it!). What did you end up going with for the FMIC or did you just keep it?

I know for sure that stock turbo will never get there which is why I listed a GTX2867R among other things and from what I read, the stock fuel system is good up to maybe 375HP.

What I'm kinda reading from your post is that I should aim for something lower for pump gas (in the 330-350 range maybe?) and got with an ethanol mix to reach that 400 on track days?

I was running the dhm race intercooler and crash bar. You probably could get there with the j line it's just going to need more effort in either cooling charge temps or running a higher octane rating fuel. I know 93 will get you higher numbers than 91 gas, not sure what you have available. But realistically I would say on 91-93 fuel with the correct supporting mods 350-375 is a realistic goal without going too big of a turbo. Then to hit the 400 mark or higher an ethanol blend or ease gas will get you there

Well your going to need auxiliary fueling, on the dyno here at PTUNING (nicknamed the heart breaker dyno) because it reads a little bit lower, the stock fuel system on the fiestas is maxed out at around 280 whp (93 octane)

Thanks guys. I guess I'm pretty spot on for what I need to achieve that.

My minimum goal is to have more power to weight than the Focus RS. By my calculation, the magic number for that is 276HP, so it seems fairly easy with an upgraded turbo to do so, but I won't be satisfied there which is why I'm aiming much higher.

I'll aim for 350 for now. Once I'm there, I'll check my options.
