The Official Creak, Rattle and other noise complaint thread

I have Cobb stage 3 on the car now for about 26k miles and 5 years of ownership. The car recently developed a bad shanking vibration that radiates through the armrest console.

I can duplicate the vibration and noise when on a hill and low rpm’s when the engine is bogging down a little. It doesn’t shake or rattle all the time but there are certain factors where it will do it every time if the clutch futons are met. It feels similar to a bad motor mount but it is in the middle of the car. It also feels similar to a slipping clutch but the clutch isn’t slipping.

I can also get it to do when accelerating in second gear. I got under the car today and everything looks in order (the down pipe, exhaust, and exhaust hangars). The exhaust of the car has gotten stronger smelling and I though the turbo back exhaust came loose somewhere but everything seems snug and tight.

I don’t have a lift and was curious if anyone has any idea what is under the armrest console? I am going to try and get a video by putting the phone under the car on my steep drive way.

I've recently noticed I've been getting inconsistent thumps somewhere in the rear on bigger bumps and it sounded like its coming from inside. To my surprise, I found that both of the cargo floor perches were really loose. This is very strange because I'm 99% sure they were not touched since the car's purchase so they must've loosened up by themselves ? I snugged the screws back and that seemed to fix it (at least for now).

Mine loosened as well. I just assumed it’s because I’m too aggressive in my handling of the false floor.

Exhaust Rattle: directly underneath the armrest really isn't much of anything but if you have an aftermarket downpipe, they often bolt up right underneath that general area and it's not impossible for that rattle to be transmitted up to your armrest.

i bring this up because i recently had the supports for my 2jracing dp break off and it caused way more vibration than you'd think. i felt it more in my shifter than anywhere else but every set up is a little different.

my exhaust hangers are also dryrotted and don't soak up as much vibration as they used to, and i could feel that in my armrest when it's really cold until i finally replaced them.

Rear Motor Mount:

the rear motor mount is somewhat nearby as well and if the engine is tapping the frame because the rubber bits are worn out, that can cause a pretty strong vibration literally anywhere in the car, depending on the resonating frequency or whatever.

I've had to replace mine already and before it did it, at idle the car would vibrate SLIGHTLY more, not really hugely concerning.

but for some reason, my glovebox door was resonating with this vibration, just physics or something, and you could actually SEE it vibrate

Centre console started making this annoying micro creaking when the car hit bumps on the road and I first found this video which pointed out the correct general location:

However, I didn't have a wooden block so I went one step further and found the exact part that made it creak and it's this bracket:

There's a clip inside where the arrow is pointing that does the actual creaking and it resonates all upwards the panelling like you wouldn't believe. Lightly spray into there with silicone lube and move it around to let it soak into the clip; that should take care of the creaking.

So yesterday I noticed my car making a loud “gong” sound from the rear end. Anytime the rear wheels went over anything by that made the wheels articulate it made this sound. It didn’t make the sound the days before, but I have heard it in the past. The sound is reminiscent of a metal barrel (like an old oil drum) being hit with like someone’s fist. Not hard like Slipknot, but soft/hard (lol). Things I’ve noticed I’ve done these past few weeks! I’ve only driven to and from work (2 miles round trip) so I haven’t filled up in over a month. Since doing that fill up the temps have gone from mid 50’s to mid 70’s. My fuel gauge is just above the red tick mark. My prediction is the fuel tank has uneven pressure in it and is making some crazy sounds! I will update once I fill the car up with fuel later today.

Has anyone else had this experience? This is the longest I’ve ever gone without gettin fuel!

Haven't heard anything like that but make sure your spare is screwed down in the back; any other cargo back there secured or removed.

Long story short, there were rocks in between where my rear springs seat on the rear axel. LOL

So I park on rock/gravel at work and can hear the rocks being flicked up by the tires. I guess a few of them got lodged in the spring seat area and were strumming the springs like a big guitar string!

I did go though the interior and take everything out, made sure the spare was tightened down. Didn’t fix it. I also filled up my tank and that didn’t fix it. Literally pulling 4 rocks out from between my rear springs and seat/axel fixed the crazy noise. 😂

Started hearing a fairly loud creaking sound coming from the front drivers side when I turned the wheel, figured it might be something suspension related but nothing appears to be wrong there.

Then I happened to press down on the fender and that was it. In fact, the headlight and fender seem to be slightly loose and rubbing and I have no idea how that could have happened. From inside my house I once watched a lady slowly back into my car (and drive away of course) and there was no visible damage, so maybe that happened again.
