Stripe Removal

Hello everyone,

I recently purchased a fiesta ST, and settled for one with "racing stripes", because I knew they would be easy for me to remove. From what i've read, i've seen most people removing them with a heat gun, and then removing the residue with WD-40. I'm not too excited about using WD-40 on brand new paint. Has anyone removed their stripes? If so, What did you use to remove the adhesive residue?

i dont see a problem with WD-40 as long as you clean it all off and it doesnt dry there for a extended amount of time.

I would imagine it's the same as the dealer decals on the back, heat gun on lower power and some goo gone and you should have no problems.

WD-40 is what I use to remove residue from the glue from stickers, emblems, stripes, etc. Since I seem to always have a can of WD-40, it's easier than going to the store to find an adhesive cleaner. I have never had an issue with using it...just make sure you wash the area off after using it. Here is a list from WD-40's website on automotive uses.

I have used the 3M for many many years but it will dull the surface if not careful.

WD40 seems to be easier on the paint but not as good as getting really old sticker residue off, sometimes, sometimes better.......

I had a Featherlite aluminum toyhauler with horrid feather stickers all over and nothing worked well on it....I spend a full day on one friggin feather.

Whatever you do I recommend letting it sit a couple of hours after you do the job and then wax it really well.

hey guys. The stripes peeled up really easily. Used a heat gun (with low heat) to help the residue pull off. I then hit it with some 3M general purpose adhesive remover and any tackiness was wiped right off.
