You guys might have known this already but in order to take full advantage of your Cobb Traction Control option you need to have the factory ESC button off ("Sport" mode). Otherwise the factory TC and Cobb TC are both working at once. The Cobb TC (tuned in by tuner, in this case Stratified) does its work via the ECU limiting throttle whereas the factory TC does its work by applying brakes (hence all the brake dust). The Cobb TC is far superior to the factory TC so in order to get everything out of the car you'll need to make sure you disable factory TC.

I had a great conversation with Alex@Stratified yesterday and he explained all this to me. I assumed that the tune/Cobb TC bypassed or shut off the factory TC but that is not the case, which Alex helped me understand. He was very nice/helpful and this further increased my high opinion of Stratified Tuning.
Are the ESC and factory TC separate, and individually selectable settings on our controls, or 'all in one'/the same??? [???:]

selectable. after holding the button down for sport mode, let go and hold it down again. one is stability and the other is TC. I forget which hold turns off what. the manual says it.

Just a few clarifications everyone and Jeff nice talking to you yesterday.

The COBB traction control works independently from the OEM TC. The OEM TC uses the brakes and throttle. The COBB traction control reduces torque via ignition timing advance. It reduces torque by reducing timing advance.
The COBB TC if enabled will be on all the time regardless of the sport or ESC off settings on the dash. If you want to experience JUST the COBB TC, you have to be at least in sport mode where the OEM TC allows you to have wheel slip.

OK I was mostly wrong. lol In my car right now. Tapping esc turns on sport mode, TC off. To kill stability control, you must NOT be in sport mode. Then press and hold esc. If TUX15ST is right, that will also kill TC at the same time.

So I asked Stratified about it via email and this is what they told me.

Aaron@Stratified said:
The cobb TC can work with the stock TC or work without. They are different approaches to traction control. If you put the car in sport mode, you will just have cobb traction control on.
So basically:
As is, without touching traction button you have stock TC and Cobb TC
Sport mode = Cobb TC
ESC off = all off

Cobb (spark based) traction control is not toggled via the ESC button at all. If it is enabled on the tune it will always be active.

Nope
So can anyone give me some final thoughts on the new v3 flash tune and/or the Cobb tc? I'm ordering an intercooler tomorrow so in about a week or so I will be installing it and I'm wondering if I should update my flash tune and get Cobb tc.

No reason not to get the cobb tc, if you opt for cnp i would get a second tune without them.... I was also just thinking its kinda funny that must people on this thread who ordered the cobb tc and said how great it was a few weeks ago... Probably weren't using it correctly hahaha

At first I didn't lol. Then it broke traction and you could feel the two systems fighting each other. Almost brought the car to a dead stop. That was a face palm moment.

But with that being said... Should we be going into "ESC off" mode so that only COBB TC is the only active one?

Have anyone also played with the new firmware update for the AP3? You can switch maps on the fly now on the device itself, plus there is a menu for the Cobb TC where you can choose a value for the Cobb TC modifier. Not sure if that's set by the tune and not actually able to be changed, I didn't try, but you can at least look at that now, pretty cool.

So my question is...

Does ESC disable everything?
Or does ESC disable everything but COBB TC?

If you ONLY want COBB TC, which option do you use?

And lastly, does using ONLY COBB TC offer the max benefits, or does using COBB TC in junction with the other default TC modes activated help?
In other words, if you have the COBB TC, should you ever bother running the car with the other modes on as well, or is that counter intuitive?

One would think that running them all together would benefit you in shallow snow/ice conditions, but who knows? [dunno]

I know that most will tell you to switch of ALL TC nannies in DEEP snow, since at times you need that excessive wheel spin in order to get out of stuck in snow bank type scenarios, or even to move forward at all straight ahead in the deep white stuff.
(The Cobb TC might help a little here as the timing retard it uses might be just enough interference to keep you from destroying your tires from the excessive spinning.)
