Hi all,

I’m new to this forum. I’m wondering if anyone can help. I bought a 2014 fiesta st in june last year, it has a distinct mouldy/mildewy smell on the inside, ive used one of those car fragrance bombs which worked ok for a week, but the smell has returned. I’ve also just noticed that in the boot on the carpet there are mould spores everywhere. And lastly i get a lot (i mean loads) of condensation on the inside of the windscreen. Can anyone help at all? As the smell is becoming an issue 😡

any help or advice would be appreciated.

First I would find out how water is getting in and fix that situation first. Sunroof? Rear hatch? Then you can get the carpets steam cleaned but cleaning should be your last thing to do, not your first. First, fine out how water is getting in.

Take the carpet out of the trunk/boot where you see the mold.See if you can trace where the water is getting in. As mentioned, a faulty seal in the sunroof or hatchback is a likely place. I don't know if there are any rubber plugs on the bottom, but if one's missing or if you have a hole in the floor that would be another place.

If you get condensation, something inside the car is actually still wet. You should be able to feel it. It all has to be dried out and in addition you will have to kill the existing mold before the smell will go away.

A/C intake for recirculation is under the front seats. Check if there is water under the seats. Do you have a sunroof?

Also suggest running the A/C at all times, even if using heat. This will help dry out the car.

I have seen people with issue where the hatch does not close right and they get water in where the spare tire goes. Also I had an issue when I first bought might that the front glass was not sealed properly and it would leak inside when it rained hard near the drivers foot well

Seals behind the tail lamps. Or a clogged roof drain.
Tagging on to OPs post, I discovered water in my 14' car a few weeks ago. I thought it was from sitting (its a fun car, so didnt drive it for 4ish weeks). After getting it dried out, cleaning the mold, I discovered yesterday that it was wet again.

I looked over the hatch seal and the tail lamps, but not seeing a point that it could be getting in.

Punk, the seal your mentioning is the seal for the wires to go through? Is this a common problem, do i need to pull it out , clean around it then put back together with some light RTV or something?

Its in the right rear area, and I can see dirt is coming in with the water, so wondering if its possible that its coming in from the rear wheel-well?

Did anyone check the antenna area? A supposed issue with these cars that rust in that area.

The wiring and the screws can leak. Also there is some kind of air vent behind the bumper area out back that has let water in on someone elses car.
