Auto lock feature?

Anyone know if a dealer can program out cars with an auto lock feature? I had a mazda dealer do this to my MS3 and I really liked it since my memory is terrible I always knew the car was locked. Basically when the car realized the doors were all closed and key fob was a certain distance from the car it auto locked the doors and armed the alarm.

So would a ford dealer be able to access this in our cars? and have it set up to do the same thing. It would be a nice touch.

Thank yall.

It's on page 66 of your owner's manual.

Autolock (If Equipped)
The autolock feature will lock all the doors when:
  • all doors are closed,
  • the ignition is on,
  • you shift into any gear putting your vehicle in motion, and
  • your vehicle attains a speed greater than 5 mph (7 km/h).
If a door is unlocked, the autolock feature will repeat when:
  • your vehicle slows below 5 mph (7 km/h) and then attains a speed greater than 5 mph (7 km/h).
Autounlock (If Equipped)
If the doors have been autolocked, the doors will autounlock only when:
  • the ignition is on,
  • all doors are closed,
  • your vehicle has been in motion at a speed greater than 12 mph (20 km/h) for more than two seconds,
  • your vehicle comes to a stop,
  • the ignition is switched off or to accessory,
  • the driver door is opened within 10 minutes of the ignition being switched from on to off or accessory.

Note: If you use the power door lock button to lock the doors before an
autolock event, the doors will not autounlock.
Deactivating and Activating Autolock or Autounlock

Note: When programming the autolock feature, carry out the following
steps within 30 seconds or the procedure needs to be repeated. If the
procedure needs to be repeated, wait 30 seconds between programming
sessions.

  1. Turn the ignition on.
  2. Press the power door lock control three times.
  3. Turn the ignition off.
  4. Press the power door lock control three times.
  5. Turn the ignition on. The module is now in programming mode.

Note: A tnne sounds as acknowledgement that the programming mode
has been entered. The safety belt must be engaged otherwise the
Belt-Minder? chime will take priority over other chimes

Not exactly what I meant. I meant auto lock when you park. As in auto lock/arm alarm when you get out and close the doors.

Sorry I must of misread your post, I get what you are saying now with the auto arm feature as in to auto lock the doors when the key is not near the car. That would be a great feature to have, hopefully someone else will chime in.

That was the first question I asked the dealer...and then the sad answer no...what I find myself doing now, since the FOB is always in my pocket, as I open the door to leave and step out, I press the lock button and leave...

Darn that sucks. Oh well, i mean i always close the door and double tap the lock button to hear the horn beep. But i have REALLY bad long term memory (blame the concussions) so ill get 5 feet from the car and forget whether or not i locked it...

Stig! Just want to make sure that you know what button Diabs is talking about: the one on the door handle.....Please don't take offense if this was obvious to you also...just trying to maybe help...since we do not have quite the sophistication of the auto locking on walk away alone..........I am a bit surprised we get a system that is as good as we have.......

My new question is....if you use the dash lock button on your way out of the car...or the little black button on the door handle(which i found out the other day..and locks doors also!)....does both of these methods arm the alarm...or just lock the doors?

Our cars have an alarm? Can anyone take a picture of this button on the door handle and point it out?

Its the only button on the driver and passenger door handle. Its a black button that locks or unlocks the door. I was always told that the alarm isn't armed unless the horn beeps. I.E. one push of the lock button, locks the doors and the lights flash. Push the button twice in succession and you get a horn beep as well.

Most will come from the dealer with an alarm, when I lock my car I see the blue light of it flashing in my car.

I set my alarm off once but for the life of me can't figure how I did it. The auto lock when parked feature would be good as long as it didn't lock your key inside the car. I personally use the black door button the most to lock the car as it is simple and does the job. Why do you need two buttons when you could have a lock/unlock button on the remote. It means I have to visually look at the remote and engage my brain to unlock the car. Lol

I would like to know if it is possible to disable the auto lock at speeds above 5mph or not. It is very irritating to try and let someone in the passenger door after the doors lock automatically.

You can disable the auto lock completely...but not based on speed.

Who's running over 5 mph to get in you r car. That's just mean!! lol

Also, I may be wrong. I thought if you pressed the little black button on the door handle twice in a row it will set the alarm as well. I know you can hear the locks engaging twice. It does not sound the horn though.
TheStig what blue light comes on for the alarm. I haven't noticed one. Where is it located? Thanks

I can attest that locking the door without pressing it twice to hear the horn does in fact arm the alarm system. Was sitting in the car turned off and hit the lock button to get the interior lights to shut off while I was waiting, proceeded to open the door and the alarm did go off. So, a single lock should do it, although you may want to test yourself just to be sure.
