Roof rack and mpg loss?

For y'all with a roof rack, what kind of hit has the mpg suffered, if any? I'm particularly interested in how much mpg y'all lost by simply having the empty rack up there. I know the bike(s) on the roof will cause a big hit. I just installed my Rola rack with a RockyMounts SwitchHitter and though I don't notice any increased wind noise, I haven't really put enough fuel through it to notice any difference in fuel economy. I'm just curious what everyone else's experience has been.

It will be minimal...maybe .5 to 1 mpg at most with just the rack that would be noticeable. It's when you have a rocket box or cargo tray/rack and filled & mounted is when you might notice if you're anal. Other than that I wouldn't worry...it's not like your driving a sprinter panel van and adding to the giant sail some call a Roof.

I have a Rola rack, small inno wind fairing and dakine aero pads. I do notice a little wind noise but not bad at all. Definitely noticed the noise more without the fairing.

I haven't noticed an mpg hit at all so far. Most of my driving is city. I just completed a highway 110 mile round trip and my mpg is comparable to what I got without the rack.

after 2 months with my rack i have not noticed any loss in mpg. with the bike on the roof i lose maybe 1 or 2.
