RANT: summer tires only on 2k14 FiST

I have bought 2 new ford hatcbacks since 2004. NONE of them have ever had an all-season tire option. ALL three came with Hi-Performance Summer tires.

WHY? seriously wtf is up fords collective butt that they cannot use a BF-Goodrich All-season tire, or ANYTHING of good value and rating as an option? I have run them on my SVT Focus and they were great. I live in PA and we just got another 6"......and today I sit at home. on summer tires.

I'm buying a $25K car...I live in the North........why am I paying for all-seasons when I wanted them ON the car in the first place?

If you live where the temp gets to freezing and there is snow you shouldn't be using 3 season tires anyways. There are a few all-weather tires available but that will just compromise performance year round.
Buy a set of winter tires for... winter.

Well, you can get creative on tire sizes and find one that fits. The Michelin Pilot Sport AS/3 is in the stock size. Frankly I don't want the manufacturer picking an All-season for the car anyway as the tire choice will probably be rubbish anyway.

If you have to drive in the snow get a 2nd set of wheels and tires. All seasons are worthless in the snow with a 1 wheel drive car like the FiST. My FiST stays warm in the garage when it's snows but I still bought a 2nd set of wheels and tires and put all seasons on them for the cold weather.

What you *should* do is get winter tires for winter, and run summer tires in summer.

I realize that's not practical for everyone, but I'm happy it didn't come with all seasons. I live in Michigan, and I immediately bought snow tires for winter, and I'm happy it came with high performance summer tires for summer, because if it didn't I would have thrown away the all season and bought another set of high performance summer tires.

it USUALLY doesn't snow like this in PA. it's every 5 years or so. I used the BFG Super sport A/S tires back in 2012 on my old SVTF and they were WONDERFUL. I know ford works with BFG and Goodyear. I'm not in Mich or canada. I'm in an all weather state. I don't want a snow tire IF I can avoid it, because the last set of snow rated tires I had were what I needed. I want ONE tire for all year. tires aint cheap.

lol i am man. i missed work today because of this storm and now I have to spend $400 + install fees to get proper tires that fit my climate. The vehicles should have an option to have a tire that fits the climate.

When I ordered mine they gave me the option if I wanted the summer tires or all seasons.. It's in the brochure as a option to get all seasons wonder if this was offered to others as well.

I guess I have been in the snow belt for too long. I had to take snows I had on another car and put them on the FiST right when bought the car.

I haven't run all-seasons on my own car in ages and all my cars have snows. But like you said, you normally don't get this bad of weather.

No tire option may be due to they want all the reviews done on the stickier tires to get the best numbers and they liked that particular tire for the setup of the car.

I always pay attention when they do car comparison rankings as to what tires are on the cars as the ones that come with super sticky tires get an unfair advantage unless the testing is done in less than idea conditions then the advantage goes to the less than race tire cars at most times.

The 2015 Fiesta ST has an option for all season tires. If you live anywhere that has temps that drop below 45'F, you should consider a winter tire. Summer performance tires lack the compound mixture to work at low temps. Having all season tires on a performance car is a horrible idea and should be avoided as much as summer tires in the snow. All season tires dilute the car, work terribly in high temp/high load conditions, and suck in the snow and cold. Go to any performance driving school and they will all say "all season tires suck in all seasons". When you buy a performance car, you should be willing to deal with the compromises that come with a performance car. That includes outfitting your car with the proper tires for conditions. It is not the fault of Ford that you planned poorly and did not accept the compromises that come from a proper performance car. Too many people don't understand a performance car and would be better off with a regular car. I see way too many complaints on tires, brake noise, brake dust, exhaust noise, MPG, and NVH on performance cars. People like that should never buy a performance car as their complaints end up diluting the car for the rest of us.

The best use for all season tires is as tire walls around racetracks or burning them.

Yupp. Although, I have heard really good things about the AS/3s.

Some of us have different criteria when picking tires than others.

I wanted a good 3 season tire I could use for most all my routine duties yet still does a commendable job in the summer for spirited driving, could do a decent job on the track in the rain and get by in lite snow, the PS2 AS is the best at this so it is was my best option.

I do not ever drive 10/10ths on public roads, I grew out of that many years ago, I can go more than fast enough on any decent tire and still be considered very quick and also a driver that cares about others on the road.

For the track I have dedicated track tires and wheels, 10/10ths and above is my style there, where that kind of driving belongs.

For the winter when really bad out, I stay home, easier to do when worked from home for 13 years and been retired for 2+ years.

I grew up in the snow and only had two sets of winter tires ever, one in the 70's for local TD rally stuff and some back road snow hooning around, the other set was ultra high performance winter but not really all out snow. I found by using momentum and a delicate touch I could go just about anywhere in any weather on the same tires I drove all year.

Even the FiST is a dang quick little car compared to most over the decades that have been built since I have been driving and I have owned many modified cars for street, track or both combined. It is far more than fast enough to endanger not only oneself but others as well, a bit less tire than a BFG Rival, etc, can be more than enough for a properly driven street car and sometimes less tire is more fun at safer speeds on public roads.

We live in an amazing era for performance cars but so many now are so over the top there is no safe place to actually use them except on a race track. Sadly most buy them for other reasons like ego stroking more than actual driving them as they are capable of and the occasional idiot that kills oneself or others and makes things harder on all of us.

I have boosted and turbo/ custom engine-swapped cars, put on and setup coilovers with tubular susp parts, tweaked my own tunes, understand timing fully.....so i assure you im not a non performance driver. This is my.......5th Ford ST vehicle. Non of them were stock. The fact that I have driven on the all seasons i just ordered in the snowy winter of 2011 lets me know they work well.

My potenzas will be going on a spare set of 17's i have. In the summer im gonna redo those wheels and use them until they are shot. Im not about to spend over $500 on steelies and dedicated snow tires for a dec-feb timeframe. I like all seasons.

I drive hard but i can adjust the limits i drive based in the tires. Its my daily. If i want nuts i will go drive my frankenstein car that is down right unsafe fast lol.

I never saw an option. Just rado grey. Does anyone know what tires they offer?

High performance tires in early winter + speed was one, and the other minor job was with iirc azenis tires and i actually installed my front right hub bearing in baclwards and ABS was off. I let a guy in front of me and then everyone slammed on their brakes and i slid into him. That car lives on.


Kinda ironic it was on summer tires too lol. I love how people bring up events from like 2010 & 2012. Nice job trolling like a child with the pics too. What is this focusfanatics? ;). Drive as much as i do like i do and see how well u make out.

Annnnyways, im.hoping to have the all-seasons here by the end of the week and then i can enjoy some kind of traction again.
