Radio not being muted for voice commands

Sync 3 v2.2
Android 8.1.0
Android Auto 3.6.583533-release

When you press the voice command button the radio should mute so the system can listen to your voice.

For me this happens the first time I use the voice command.

Every time after the first time it does not mute the radio so the system just sits there listening forever.

If I stop Android Auto and restart it again works one time.

Ideas?

It's a known issue. It used to happen to me a lot when I was using my old phone. Maybe updating sync will help. If not, you might need to consider a newer phone.

Easy enough to test, if someone you know has a newer phone (one of the Pixels might be the best bet).

Thing is it before Android 8.1.0 it was random, after the update it's just broken.
