I went to the dealer to order the seals and this is what they got me. Not the right part but this is what comes up with vin. They emailed ford and found that the seals that they gave me were not the right ones that there is a glitch in the system. I wonder if you guys that have had ford replace yours are getting these wrong seals and this is why they still leak?

That's a great observation. Mine are currently no longer leaking, and after three dealer attempts to repair it seems that they finally got it resolved.

That's great to here that they finally got it right. Do you know that they did to solve the problem? Parts they used? Did they just replace seals or did they replace axle shafts too? Do you happen to have the part number for the seals they used?
Thanks Dustin

So the ford dealer heard back from ford and the part number that they said i need is cv6z1s177a. witch is a motorcraft bfs-174. The kicker here is i have them coming from walmart! 4.44 each. Have the seal installer coming too, got lucky and found it on eBay. And just ordered up some motul 300 too. So if this all comes together i should hopefully have this leak fixed by next week.

Just makes you want to buy a $46k AWD limited production Focus with a zillion dollar rearend, doesn't it ? Lol.

Can't wait till the RS gets 2 years under its belt and the combo of ford being cheap and owners actually start driving them kicks in... I guess those RS buyers can alway trade it in on a GT350R lol. Just keep buying more and more fords.

Do I sound bitter? I am. Lol.

If I see one more major major automotive mechanical issue fixed with "updated software" I'm gonna loose it, lol.

"Wheel bolts may fall off casing car to
Crash and kill everyone inside"

"Bring to a local dealer so they can flash the ECU to keep the wheels from coming off".

This is a company that changed the brake fluid on a heavy duty truck because it was
Cheaper than replacing the hard brake
Lines that they had routed too closely to the exhaust pipes.... So they upgraded the brake fluid to keep it from boiling, lol. BUT AT LEAST THEY DIDNT FIX IT WITH SOFTWARE UPDATE !! Lol

^ I don't find negligence in any form acceptable, and I purchased my FiST new for $18,300 plus TT&L and I fully expected some "bargain" when I purchased. I will never accept crappy build quality, and I can be a real pita to the dealer and to the manufacturer if I want to be.

Topic diversion, proceed at your own risk....lol

Sourskittle - What are your experiences so far related to engine and tranny with your cyborg turbo. I plan to make that jump sometime in the next year (I have the money today if I really wanted to), and I am kinda waiting to put another year on my car and to see how it holds up to hard weekend only driving as a stage 3 with custom tune and being well maintained.

No more odd leaks, no burning of any copious amounts of oil, and consistent smooth shifting for another year will give me confidence that the system could handle some additional stress with no serious long term issue.

Sidenote - With my rear seats and brackets/belts removed, lightweight wheels + tires, chassis bracing, and supporting power mods as the car rides today. It already feels pretty darn quick thumbs up, and I would love another 20whp and to shift the powerband 500 rpms N start to finish in the rev range.

I think I've had the biggest failures due to punishment, other than Russ at 420whp ( he was really asking for it, lol ).
Let me start by saying its not the car I'm mad at. The fiesta ST is still an epic little car. Its the fact that if ford has a arm-hairs crack that it can hide in to avoid fixing something that THEY SHOULD FIX, they don't take the extra step. To really take it a step further.... Ford pays less than $450 to produce a $5500-$6000 focus ST engine. How much do you think a fist CV axle really cost ford? They pay techs about $20 per hour, but likely you won't get a "tech" you'll get someone lower making $15 per hour. Either way.... In my case to fix my cv axle, ford could have done it from prob less than $100 real money ( the warranty would say more on the invoice, but its ford charging ford ). So its not the car... Its the company. And the fact that its customers keep being foolish enough to buy a crappy ford ( not a fist ) and then turn around and buy ANOTHER FORD. But the problem isn't just ford. Its the entire industry that does what it wants as regards to fixing basically brand new cars or not. An industry that has pretty much zero over sight. And a huge huge huge problem I have is the terms like "power train warranty" and "extended warranty". I think most people have been lucky enough to never need those term really defined for them while looking at a $500 repair bill for a car with a "extended warranty", or trying to get something repaired under a "power train warranty". They are both basically joke words. Words that lead to phrases like "we replaced the engine block for free under the extended warranty and your total comes to $836".

Anyway... Let me move on...

The fist....
Cv axle seals leaking ? A pita, and I get that. But in the grand scheme of things, that's a super small bitch. The only thing that worries me about that is.... If your a normal person, not a gear head, and you never notice an oil spot/leak, and you drive the car for $36,001 before you realize your trans is shot due to running the trans with no gear oil, then what? Think ford is going to pony up a days labor, and a new $2600 trans for someone that is out of warranty ???? Now some may say that is the owners fault, and in some ways, sure it is. That should pay more attention. BUT !!!! Do you guys think ford can't identify the cars that are prone to this leak issue using production numbers ??? They can... So... Where is the recall? Even if its just a recall to CHECK the trans for leaks. That is on ford. And its plan and simple on ford to HELP THEIR CUSTOMERS. But let me tell you why they don't give a shit. Its your damn fault !!! When those people find that their 36,001 likely needs a new trans mission after just paying ford $700 to replace cv axle seals ( because that's how dealerships roll with "customer pay" ), guess what is going to happen while they are at the dealership 2-3-4 times.... They are going to trade in that junk ass 36,001 car on a new FORD. And the cycle repeats its self.

Sorry... The fist.... Augh....

The cylinder head issue I experienced, I FULLY BELIEVE is a result of the escape cylinder heads being shifted to the fist. The fist has way less day to day load on it vs the escape, and unless your "racing it" it should be "ok". Well... Of course that puts me and a bunch of others in the "shit out of luck" area, but it saved ford $100 per cylinder head didn't it, lol. I think its def def def limited to the very first production fists. If you have a later 14 or 15 or 16, I think its fine. But I still feel ford should stand by something like a cracking cylinder head on a 38k mile car. Modern castings should not just crack in the fashion mine did...

The trans? Its epic. Its so small. And its handling SO MUCH TORQUE. It shifts mostly smooth ( it can be a little tough to get into 1st, but its no big deal at all ). Some people complain about it being a bit noisy. BRING THE NOISE. Generally, the stronger trans of the world make more noise that the weaker ones. I'll take the noise thank you. Besides the cost, its an awesome trans.

The engine? Its pretty bad ass too. It has some weakness. The displacement is always going to challenge us. I feel like it doesn't make power for shit compared to what we are putting into it ( nearly 30psi ). But between its very advanced ecu and the engine design, its been awesome to us all in a general sense. The overheating this is just a mind-F to me... I mean... How hard would it have been ford ford to spend a single day in Florida during June at Sebring international ? New cars that are stock over heating because of a consistent 2% grade? Unacceptable.

Cv axles apparently are BAD ASS. I'm the only tard that has broken one.... Wheel hop anything hard enough, enough times and it will break. From an AMG to a CTS-V, wheel kills parts, and it killed my cv axle. I don't see anyone ever killing one with normal, or even moderate abuse. Don't let there size fool you.

Motor mounts suck. What stock car doesn't have crappy ones.

I'm not even going to bring up the facts about the LSD and even the damn dodge neons had one...

I love the fist still. I'm impressed over all still. And... Just like when I said in 2005 when I FINALLY got out of the worst car I'd ever owned, a focus ZX3, "I will never own another ford".

Well had a chance to install my seals today along with the motul 300. Having the seal installer tool really helped getting the seals in. Fingers crossed and will report back after my next oil change.

'16, bought in March 2016...

I noticed the driver side was weeping a little at ~3.5K. I've been checking it at each oil change since then, and it hasn't gotten noticeably worse. Nothing like romancommander's pics in the other thread. (The leaky CV boot, on the other hand... [:p]) I'm continuing to keep an eye on it.

I can confirm that my 2016 has leaking axle seals as well, aggressive weeping at least. I have had the car for exactly one year, (Delivered March '16) now has 6,500 miles.

Will be going in for warranty repair on that next week, plus a repair to the roof molding. My driver side roof molding is lifting up at both the front and the rear.

Mine are leaking a little (albeit enough to coat the bottom of my transmission) and the dealer refused to replace because they said a little is normal. Some dealers are so cheap it's ridiculous.

Just saw this weekend that the bottom of the transaxel was wet, and traced it up to the axle seals. I would list it as weeping, though I've had many new cars and this was not normal on any of them, including my 03' Focus. The car is a 2017 with 1300 miles. I'll be calling the dealer.
