I would love to hear this little engine spin that high, has to sound intoxicating!

BUT, RPM kills engines faster than all but a bad tune or wrong gear downshifts, be careful there as the main reason F1 engines are so expensive, to make the RPM to make the power, a major reason they went back to boost(unless they changed again, no TV, not following F1 now, no time, to busy living my dream:)

------------------

One thing many overlook, I have mentioned it in different terms but the basic way to think of it is simple.

1) What RPM do you run the most? Averaged out, over time, nearly always well below peak power levels.

2) What RPM do you find yourself in most of the time when you need quick acceleration? Well below peak, low to midrange.

3) What real power do you have available for most of your real driving and often times in situations like canyon carving, solo, HPDE, etc.....? Mid to upper mid range and some at peak.

4) What numbers do you come up with using a timeline, all the above, etc...what will yield higher numbers? A wider power band with less peak power, you actually have more power more of the time where you spend the vast majority of the time.

5) What car will be faster, more of the time? The answer is in #4.

6) What car will potentially be safer most of the time? Answer is in #4, nice to have power to get out of the way, etc, something I have used hundreds if not thousands of times.

7) What car will benefit from spreading the money around on things like wheels, tires, brakes, suspension, diff, weight reduction, etc instead of mostly on peak power? All cars, most all the time, especially when carefully built as a balanced package.

8) What car will be more reliable, easier to drive in most situations, more overall fun, for most drivers? #7

I like most everybody else love to read about big power numbers, exciting stuff, real world driving fun, I will always take a car setup like #7 with a nice wide power band and less peak power and I have beaten hundreds of cars over the decades that have had more power than they needed, many of which still upgraded other parts but not in a balanced package and balance is the single most important key, to all things, not just cars.

----------------

But of course,

"it's your thing, do what your wanna do, I can't tell you, who to sock it to"

I will gladly demonstrate this when I have my car done, sorted out, on track, demo rides in safe areas, etc....for anybody what wants a ride and a select few will get to drive it as well:)

Have a great day!

This turbo kit is becoming more and more popular over here in the uk, Sitech racing are running around 375bhp with theirs, still on standard internals etc.
There is also one just running the peron kit and an intake, and that is seeing 299bhp, still with standard intercooler and exhaust!! Just shows what these cars are capable of.

I won't be going for this kit, instead using a new smaller hybrid turbo with my revo stage 2, hopefully seeing around 280bhp for reliable track usage.

Callum,
I am working on the same idea but want just a bit more power, 250WHP being minimum but I would like more around 275 so around 315BHP but not sure I will get there with the modified stock turbo. I am doing all the supporting mods, oil cooler, radiator, much bigger IC, heat wrapped pipes, opened up the back of the radiator shroud, opened up the grill and some of the bumper beam. If I do not get quite what I need then I will DIY an EFR, I can get a killer price on the turbo here, just need a manifold and build the rest myself.

I was waiting on a cast SS manifold I was supposed to get weeks ago, if I had I would be putting on an EFR now but while waiting I was offered a super deal for letting them use my turbo to have a bigger compressor wheel, bored out opening and ported done for a price I had to jump on. I have a very well ported stock manifold and true 3" DP and exhaust with very clean flow I built as well as true CAI into the stock air box for now until I finalize and build the 3" intake and box to feed it into.

If the kit on this thread was significantly less costly I am sure many would order it, just so much money, so beautifully executed is wonderful but simply to much for most budgets:(

Rick, your plans sound awesome! Do you have a project thread or anything for me to read through?
I think you might have to go with the bigger turbo for 315bhp, I'm informed that the 'hybrids' will be lucky to see 300, more around 280bhp.

Peron are releasing a hybrid turbo kit, around half the price of the big turbo kit, although there is no news on figures or anything yet, they are also releasing an I/c too, with an option of using aerospace foam in it, that will be mega $$$ though!
Their kits are mapped so the boost is the same as the standard turbo, but obviously it works more efficiently, and peak power isn't made until fairly late in the rpm range, which is a bit crazy for a daily driver, but good for a race car, which is what the kits are mainly used for.

I will keep an eye out for your results, I think I'm pretty much set on the hybrid 7 blade turbo from pumaspeed, although they for some reason have a terrible reputation with us in the u.k, so I'm open to other options!

Thanks,
Callum

Just an update to this thread, apparently peron have just made 315bhp from this kit, still on the stock catback, and this is on more than one car as well.

I'm still going for a hybrid setup......I think....[giggle]

He may or may not of, I will let him post what he is ready to say:)

Mine is on but waiting on brake caliper mounts so I can drive the car.

You just *had* to mess with the brakes, didn't you? :)

Looks like Pumaspeed did some more tuning and got more power out of their OEM Hybrid turbo, much more area under the curve. Nevermind the peak numbers, the curves look soooo much better than the stock turbo.

That's what turbo I will be going with, decent numbers for a daily driver and occasional track use, and hopefully reliable power as well.
If that is a guy called Matt's car, he is also running their new quickspool exhaust manifold which I think is being released shortly.

Sounds good mate, I see the price for the hybrid has now been officially released! When are you going for it?
I'm still unsure about the peron efr kit as I do quite a lot of track days etc, I will probably go for the puma speed new hybrid.

I'll probably pick up the Hybrid stage 2 or whatever they call it too, trying to not spend $2,000 USD+ on it though. I think it's a proper OEM upgrade with both wheels upgraded to create a well balanced turbo.

I was going to pick up a ATP GTX turbo kit but this will probably work better for my needs.
