So I was changing the CV boot today, and when it came to tightening the oetiker clamp (the small one on the inside), I crimped it when it was slightly off the boot. Once crimped, it's done and given that I already put everything back together, the only way to secure the boot was to use a hose clamp. Thus, I am wondering why Ford uses ear clamps for this application - is there something wrong with the hose clamps in that location? Or is this because the ear clamps are cheaper?
