Noisy Dual Mass Flywheel?

Hello everyone.

I recently bought a new 2015 FiST.

I have only 1500 mile on her now and i am starting to here a very Clickety-clack noise, from what i think is coming from my DMF.

I just now am starting to here it and its only when i shift from first to second on take offs when letting the clutch out for second gear.

I went to the dealer and drove a used FiST that they had on the lot with only 3000 miles on it and i was not able to make it do the same noise as mine.

I do not have any noise when out on freeway and there is no clunk when i shift no whine and the car drives good other then this very annoying loud noise when shifting on take off from fist to second.

I have searched about this before i posted and i do see that some people have a little noise but i feel like mine is excessive.

So how loud should this be or should there be any noise. I find it strange that i can not reproduce the noise on the used FiST at the dealer.

I want to start moding my car but not if its going to have a problem and then the dealer will not take care of it.

ideas thoughts? thanks for you help

I guess it could be but I thought they would make the noise more often then just second gear shift. Also the low miles I didn't think they would be a problem.

I would like to believe that, but i have yet to drive another one that makes the same noise that i have. I have driven one with 3000 miles no noise, and one with 22,000 no noise. And the two that i have driven don't have only noise when shifting from first to second like you and some others say that is normal?

Hey buddy, let whatever you like live rent free in your head. However, that is the nature of high performance MT cars. Some will chatter, some won't. When you upgrade clutches, same thing. Some chatter and some don't.

Dig into it as much as what works for you;-)

Thanks for your thoughts, i just have a hard time with this as the car did not do this when new and has me wondering why now with such low miles. I will do a little more digging and then make my choice of having ford look at it.

Try taking it to the dealer an show them what the issue you think younhave. Then drive another one with them to show it doesnt make that noise on other ST

UPDATE!

So i went to another dealer where they have an employee that is into our cars and has a very nice one himself. He let me come by and try out his car and he drove mine and his did make the noise too but just not as loud. And when he drove mine he could here mine and did notice that mine was a little louder too. So for now I feel ok. Funny thing, each car that i have driven all feel so different! They all have there own personality!

Dual mass flywheels are typically sprung (as are clutches). What you're hearing are these springs. If it rattles as you engage it's broken. Otherwise you're fine.

Mine makes noise too, and while shifting from second to third. It is a click clack sound and I've just learned to accept it as normal.

Mine has been rattling while engaging for a year. I took it into the dealership a month or two after I started hearing it, and they told me it was a normal characteristic of the car.......Now the clutch is really weak, and catches way too late. I think its been messed up since a long time ago but since they told me it was normal, I'm not sure what to think.

Best of luck with your car!

Yea I wouldn't doubt it but my guess is they'll say its normal or it is my fault. I guess their system will show record of me bringing it in about the issue a year ago. I don't know. Anyone know of a good dealership in the Raleigh area? We've since moved from the area where I purchased the fiesta.

Thanks!

Hey TuxedoST,

I'm happy to help locate a dealership in your area, as well as look over some resources on my end to see how I can help. Please PM your name, VIN, mileage, dealer, best daytime phone number, and ZIP. Talk to you soon! :)

Hi. I've actually met someone local who works for a Ford dealership. He's checking into things for me. Having said that, I've learned that the dealership I bought the car from didn't write anything in my vehicle history when brought in for the very same concern after owning the car for 3 months. That means they took one look at it and decided they didn't want to bother with my concern. I brought it in specifically for the very reason that, should a problem arise in the future, I'd have some sort of proof showing it has been a concern for a while. It hurts to hear the Ford dealership cares that little about my purchase.
FordService, I'll let you know what happens when I know.

Thanks
