MT COY Finalist: Ford Fiesta

Motor Trend's Car of the Year contest featured a nice write-up of the Fiesta ST. The judges reportedly loved 'most everything about the car, although one found the shifter "notchy" (a criticism with which I have to agree), and another found the car "juvenile". To which I say: .

The review's authors mention that if Ford had only supplied enough of the Fiesta lineup for an evaluation of the full slate of Fiestas, the car might have taken home the "Golden Calipers".

The winner was the Cadillac CTS. At a stoplight yesterday, my FiST was next to a yellow Camaro ZL1, in front of a black CTS, and next to the CTS was a black 911 Turbo. Two of the four were not on the MT COY list of contenders--the Camaro and the 911T. I rolled down the window to hear the Camaro, and lord-a-boy, I'll say, it sounded bee-yew-tee-ful! But it looked like a deranged bee. The CTS looked like every other CTS--like it had been designed by a computer without an updated "personality" module. And the 911 Turbo was of recent vintage and looked the part of the venerable but still capable veteran. I enjoyed being there for a moment, though each of the other three probably just looked at my little FiST as an econobox-in-the-way. My car was, of course, the only one incapable of getting to 60 mph before the fourth Mississippi, but I was still enjoying the ride.

Well at least the Fiesta ST made it this far lol. I didn't think it would win because of the competition but its nice to see we at least got some recognition.

Fiesta ST is just throwing everything out the window as far as preconceived performance notions go.
