So with my fiesta I would like for it to sound as close as possible to a rally car as well perform.

I'm currently looking at a cold air intake what would be best for me to get I don't know what parts I should get to make my car perform that well or nearly as well as a rally car. Also I don't know if I have to make a custom exhaust or what with a downpipe

I'm open to anything

Any exhaust system as loud as an actual WRC/FIA rally car would most likely not be street legal in most states.
Even if somehow legal, it will most definitely get you noticed and stopped much more often by local and state cops.

Yes, technically all cars competing in the WRC/ERC/etc. must be road legal as far as fully functional/operational; lights, turn signals, horn, etc. goes, but they are given MUCH 'leeway' by the local gendarmes when on the open public roads transit portions of the rally as to their ultimate (sound regulations, emissions, etc.) street legality.

I am running a stock airbox so I can’t help you there but I did recently acquire and install a Tune+ exhaust that I believe captures the rally-inspired sound nicely & has handmade features & an exhaust tip. If I were not concerned about emissions, I would still be running the car with a catless downpipe. A dp will only make it sound more appropriate imo. Milltek also makes a nice lightweight exhaust which comes in a race version.

^^^Ironically, all FIA regulated rally cars must use a catcon, but they are usually mounted at the very back of the system, almost where a 'back box' (as the Brits say) muffler would go.

They are what can be seen glowing red inside the tail pipe during the dark and cloudy, or night stages of rallies.

Yeah, if they did not have these they would be much louder yet.

The Tune+ is titanium alloy, correct? $$$$$ [crazyeye]

It sounds similar to my 'worn-in', now 8 year old CP-E nexus system when cold, but mine might be even a few decibels higher.

Love that 'pie cut' turn down exhaust tip! [thumb]

If I were ever to consider a replacement system for the CP-E, the only reason (besides losing the extra pops/burbles of a 3" system, even on the fully factory tune) I would get the Thermal over that one is because the Thermal allows you to change out the tail pipe/tip, whereas the Tune+ welds that tip onto the muffler.

Yes, more solid and one less point for anything to loosen up and be checked.
But if you like to change things up aesthetically, occasionally with the tip style, like I do, you are SOL with the Tune+ (unless you cut, expand, and clamp that pie cut tip to the Vibrant muffler).

The Thermal is too quiet, too heavy (+25lbs) and does not pop or burble like the Tune+ does. Not to mention, you lose power with the 3” on the stock turbo and the carbon builds up on the rear bumper cover. That’s why I went from the Thermal 3” back to a 2.5” exhaust.

Yes, I probably should be using a 2.5 system on this car since I cannot see any turbo upgrades in the foreseeable future life of this car.

But I am not too sure that I am actually losing any power with a 3" system, just yes, certainly not gaining any.

My CP-E 3" system absolutely does pop and burble, more when cold than not, but still some even when warm/hot.
I have never heard or experienced a Thermal system live, in person, so I would not know it's characteristics as far as sound goes. (Almost NO Fiesta STs in my area, bone stock or modified to have ever heard one with a Thermal on it.)

But yes, as far as weight goes, the CP-E is not just heavier than the Thermal, but also even the factory system (I think??).
It is hard to impossible to beat the weight of the stainless Tune+ system if every ounce is a major concern. [thumb]

Unless you're modifying for big power don't change the intake. The factory intake is pretty well-designed. The majority of "cold air" intakes are counterproductive. Look at where most of them draw air, right in the engine compartment next to the engine and transmission. Don't even get me started on how most of them require the use of an oiled gauze type filter (K&N style) which are garbage filters to start with.

If you want to make an upgrade spend the time/money on a better intercooler.

As for the exhaust. You will start out loving a really loud exhaust, then hate it later on. Especially if this is a daily driver. The previous owner put a COBB exhaust on my FiST, and it's about as loud as I would want a car to be, sounds good under acceleration but still pretty quiet under cruise throttle. I can still drive long distance without exhaust drone making me want to suck start a pistol. I'd much rather hear the cool turbo noises vs a loud exhaust any day of the week.
