Hey all,
So I've been lurking for a few weeks, and finally taking the time to introduce myself. Seems like a good community here, and it's exciting to be a part of things from somewhat near the start of a car's introduction. (At least its intro date in the US.)
I bought my 2014 Oxford White FiST on May 31 from Galpin AutoSports in LA. Yes, the guys from Pimp My Ride. Their dealership is enormous.
I wanted the white with the orange recaros and navigation, and they had the only one in stock I could find. They'd just received it a few days before (which turned out to be a great thing, as they didn't have time to add any of their accessories to it.) Was gonna order one built, but it was too late to order a 2014, and couldn't use the incentives of course on a 2015. So I took the MegaBus overnight, got my car, and drove it home that day.
(Drive home was actually hilariously long, as I followed PelotonRacer's advice as to car break-in and didn't keep it at a constant speed, worked through all the gears in increments of 200 rpm, and never went above 60 or so. So it wasn't the quickest drive home, but gave me a chance to get acclimated with the car. I still don't get the whole Sync thing yet, but I haven't spent any time on it.)
Changed the oil at 500 miles, didn't see any metal flakes, but didn't look too carefully either. Will check it again when I recycle it.
So far, it's been a blast, but I'm only at 700 miles, so I haven't really dogged it out too much. But I will.
Did my first mod today: about three inches of curb rash on the front right wheel. Feel like an idiot, but hey, sometimes we are all idiots. It's light, but it's there, and it sucks, but in some ways, I'm happy to have the first scratch/imperfection on the car, cuz the first is the most painful. Still, it hurts, especially when you are just rushing and are then filled with Instant Crushing Regret.
As small as it is, this car is actually a bit heftier than my last car. I just sold my 1977 Honda Civic CVCC wagon, which was about 8 inches narrower and 700 or so pounds lighter than the FiST. Length is the same. The difference in width is what I'll blame for the curb rash, lol. I learned a lot about working on cars with that Honda, but once I had it all fixed up and had taken the project as far as I wanted, it was fun to look at, but man, at 63 hp it was pretty slow. I was ready for a car with some pep again.
The Honda did get me hooked on its small size though, and I feel the Fiesta is the perfect city car for me. Fun to drive in short bursts, easy to park, looks good enough, gas mileage is fine, holds my crap, and puts a smile on my face. I test drove a number of other cars, and some seemed to be better values, but nothing put the same smile on my face as the Fiesta.
Anyways, hey all, glad to be here!
