Update 8/20/15: Exhaust Testing

As promised I did some dyno testing with our catback. I was floored when I saw the results, they were pretty stout! All testing moving forward will be done on a Cobb Stage 1 tune to keep consistent results, once the preliminary testing is done I will do a custom tune for everything installed and compare against Cobb's OTS maps for the corresponding modifications.

Cobb Stage 1 results on a completely stock Fiesta:

Cobb Stage 1 results with MAPerformance 2.5" Stainless Steel Catback:

As you can see there was a SUBSTANTIAL gain in power with our catback installed. I do realize there is a 300rpm difference in the run start time but that doesn't make any difference after years of testing peak power and torque still hits at the same RPM regardless. Not only is there is a HUGE peak increase in both HP and TQ, but it is across the entire powerband, absolutely insane!

Below is the boost vs rpm log from each run. You can see that peak boost was exactly the same for both runs, as the tune was not altered in anyway.

Just in case you missed it, here is the video!

If you have any questions please feel free to post up, I'm here to supply any info I can!

Thank you,
Adam Brunson

Nice results! I like how quiet your exhaust is as well as how nice the quality appears. With performance to boot, I'm sold.

Random question... for those in places with weird exhaust laws... would cutting the exit flange and change it to something larger to match the cat-back help? Or is the restriction not at that point but the actual catalyst itself?

Whoa whoa that's crazy how did you gain so much from just a cbe? Not knocking the results by any means . That's a gain of 19 whp and 37 tq!!!!!!

Hey Adam maperformance, how much clearance is there between the exhaust tips and the rear valance? Can you stick your fingers in between the valance and tips to wipe the tips? I've seen a few that look as close as your set up appears in the photo and they end up melting or burning the rear valances because of radiating heat over time. I like everything else, but that's the only thing that bother's me. I'd prefer it a little lower. I'm in the market for a cat-back and this is one of a few I'm considering.

Whoa wtf [:0]

Those gains are Stage 1 with ONLY a Cat-back set up or with a downpipe too? That's seems extremely high gains for a CBE.

What's the secret hmmm? [poke]

I know it really is . I could see a full TBE . But even that's a lot with just OTS tune . Figure no intercooler , no etune or any e85, 40 or meth to pull 273 tq is pretty impressive for just a stage 1 and cbe.

I'll be putting up datalog comparison graphs up today. I put the car back to 100% stock last night, and have it strapped on the dyno now to get fresh 100% stock results on Cobb Stage 1 tune. Pictures and more data to follow, trust me the results are a little staggering to myself seeing as I have tuned countless FiST with different modifications including big turbo.

Either you have a "ringer" FiST, or you have my order..lol. I sure hope that your original results can be duplicated!

Here ya go!

Alright, so went back out on the dyno. Put the car completely back to stock, and loaded the same tune from yesterday (Cobb Stage 1 93). Here are some pictures and results compaired to JUST our catback that was installed yesterday.

Picture below shows today's 100% stock numbers:

And here are the dates from today's stock baseline and yestesrdays CBE:

And the results together from the dyno computer:

And the results together from a screenshot:

Here are datalog results. The red plot is 100% bonestock pull from today, and the blue plot is our catback pull from yesterday:

*UPDATED LOG*

You can see that I used logViewer and lined up the Accelerator Pedal Position (APP) so it is showing the log starting at the same time. The blue plot is shorter because it reached the rev limiter first, because it is making more power. I also tried getting the dyno sampling to be as close as possible as they were off by 300-400rpms yesterday.

Dyno room is a closed cell unit with two floor fans and two massive intake/exhaust fans to circulate the air in the dyno cell 8 times every 60 seconds. We have a carbon monoxide monitor in the cell as well to ensure the air quality is consistent. Temperature in the dyno room this today and yesterday was 75 degrees as we normally try to have it (climate control).

Here is my take on the results, as mentioned on the previous page (and another post depending on what thread you are looking at). When you have a intake/intercooler/downpipe already installed on the car you aren't going to see much of a gain when you install a CBE. The reason for this is you are already maxing out the factory turbo, this is one of the reasons I'm not using my custom tune that we include with the purchase of an Accessport. When you start making "room" for turbo, it can only digest and expel so much airflow. Whatever part combination you use to reach that airflow limit is up to you, and once you hit that limit additional modifications are only going to increase the power/torque output marginally.

In the end, taking results from each part installed individually and adding them up isn't going to be your final hp/torque gains when all parts are installed. As you add more, the gains will be smaller and smaller until you upgrade the turbo.

If you have any questions, please ask away!

I utilize Virtual Dyno to measure my before and after gains, and if I gain 10 whp and the same lb ft trq along the same relative curve, I will be happy. I am currently running a pro tune, FMIC, plus intake, and my VD results are consistently between 197 - 201 whp and 263 - 271 lb ft trq.

Once i see another car, another climate, another dyno show similiar results (within 5% or so) i may have found my exhaust.

That won't be long, I'll be shipping out the first exhaust in just a few weeks and the car is also 100% stock.

so is this stock vs ots stg1 and CBE

or

ots Stg 1 stock vs ots stg 1 and CBE????

because no boost increase at all and it picks up +21.57WHP / +28.36WTQ. Bolt this exhaust on a stock with a cobb ots stg 1 FiST and boom! It is really nice quality and sounds but advertising that type of gain from only a cat back seems....well I would love to get one I would sell them all day... when will they be ready i got a couple local guys with stock fiestas i would love to test it back to back just like you did on a OTS map.

You copied and pasted your facebook post here? hahah.

Cobb Stage 1 on both results and all results moving forward, just to keep everything consistent!
