Magnaflow (15311) Cat Back System - Need Thoughts/Opinions

I am considering getting this over the Borla, Cobb, Ford Racing, etc... due to the sound note. I had a 93 Civic with my own "custom" cat back system. I had a muffler shop put 2.5" from the cat back and I went through 4 mufflers before I found what I liked. I know I don't want a pissed off bubble bee, see Borla, Cobb, Ford Racing, etc... I want a few extra ponies and when I jump on it you can hear it. At this point I'm debating on going down to a muffler shop and having them run 2.5" piping to the stock muffler. The problem there is a typical muffler shop doesn't use stainless piping or have a mandrel bending machine. I don't want and obnoxious car sound, but I do want the added performance.

I apologize in advance if this has been posted. I searched the forums but didn't come across an answer. I have looked at all of the manufacturer's clips on Youtube and this sounded the best to me.

After seeing the blurb on the COBB exhaust I would wait the few weeks to see just how bad it really is the tips look stunning and the sound is good too..

I personally don't like the magnaflow, find it too quiet. The COBB one is more my thing, but then you're asking about YOUR car.

Exhaust is a very personal thing as I just mentioned, something I highly recommend and couldn't be happier with could be the exact opposite for you as it seems to be in this case. The most you can do is watch videos and try to come up with a decision for yourself [:)]

I actually do like the Magnaflow because its quiet lol. But seeing that Cobb will release their's soon I'm at a wait to see the final product first.

18-25 yr old...loud....30+-50+ yr old not so loud....I am happy with the sound from the symposer...I really don't wan't drone or announcing myself...stealth is my goal...shoot darts here

I guess I fit the bill, 34. I want power, not noise. It would be different if I had a V8. I live in a county that doesn't do emissions testing so I could run off road exhaust all day long.

2.25" is not worth spending the money on as just not big enough over the stock exhaust.

Not a fan of some things they do. I had a system on my 5.7 Tundra and it was the worst exhaust I ever had, sounded great in all ways except right at cruising speed on the road, it had the most obnoxious nasty sounding drone I could ever imagine, it was gone in two days.

Cobb on my highly modified Forester XT, which was very fast in SM autocross and HPDE, perfection! Zero drone, sounded great, not to loud(I like to sound good but not draw to much attention from those that like to write tickets, can have much more fun that way) and it made great power with their DP:)

One thing to watch out for is how well a system is built, not just from what materials and sometimes issues there. I have a 3" inlet, dual 2.5" outlet muffler that is a horrible design internally I rejected from using on my car and bought a Borla SS 3" in and out" with SS packing so it does not burn out over time. It is in their race series so not going to be real quiet. I also run a big high flow cat because I believe it is important to take care of the air we breath and it smooths out the exhaust sound. I also have a goo size SS resonator and a true 3" all the way through and well ported DP as well as ported the rest of the exhaust...I bet it flows as well as some aftermarket catless systems with necked down DP and restrictive muffler, not ported....;)

I see that 2.25" is a no-go. What size do you recommend then? 2.5"?

I had my exhaust guy from Meineke make me a custom 2.5" stainless CBE to a Magnaflow muffler, and finished off with the two stainless tips. I didn't do mandrel bent but I've seen our cars with similar systems producing nice results on the dyno. It all cost me $300 something and I have a full stainless exhaust. I personally chose this exhaust for the performance, sound, quality and exact look that I wanted.

Sounds like I'm going to have to go the same route to find what I want. Muffler shop, 2.5 cat back, hopefully delete the resonator, and play around the withe muffler. Maybe I can get away with using the same tips that cam on the car. Otherwise I want the burnt tip look.

Does the resonator help to delete the drone at cruising speeds? If so then I want that to stay on the vehicle. I see some of you guys went with a high flow catalytic converter. Here's a little secret, they're all high flow. With the CU and power of the engine in our cars I don't see the point of changing it. If we were running 1,500 HP supercharged V8s then I could see going that route.

Main reason I went with a catted Downpipe is to stay clean smelling and get a 3 inch downpipe which will flow tons better than the tiny stock downpipe..

Naw I track mine or kill cones if I can work it in my schedule.. But it is my Daily Driver as well great lil car and fun too boot :) Still gets over 30 mpg

What are you referring to when you say their all high flow,?

Never said that, I said there's not a point putting on a "high flow" catalytic converter. Larger tubing = better breathing = more power, usually. There is a point where you can go too large of diameter and mess up the back pressure.
