Lowering Spring Install Tips?

Hi all,

Planning on installing my Mountune lowering springs here soon and wanted to see if anyone has any tricks or tips. I've watched a few videos on YouTube as well as read through Cobb and Rallysport Direct's install guides.

Believe I have all the tools I need - pass thru sockets, spring compressor, impact gun, etc. Any tips on top of what I've listed?

Thank you!

When I did this following the Rallysportdirect guide worked out great. I had never changed out Springs before and it was quite easy.

My biggest question is... How loaded are the stock springs? It's been a long time since I've used a compressor and it's making me nervous!

They are not cranked down that tight. Proper use of your particular compressors should be quite safe. By the time you crank them down enough for the hats to spin freely you should be good to go. I used a cheap set of compressors from Harbor freight.

Yeah I ordered a set with safety pins on Amazon. Hoping it goes smoothly. I'll be working alone. How long did it take you?

Yep, safety pins were on mine. I like you was nervous about it so I took my time with long breaks mixed in. Spent about 3 hrs start to finish. Did front first and finished with rear as it is much easier. I moved on to Coilovers later and had to remove the Springs from those as well due to upgrading to swift Springs. Pretty straight forward each time.

Took my time and wrapped it up in about 3-4 hours. It wasn't too bad. Now for a test drive.

Installed Mountune springs yesterday also. Took 8 hours total. The car is lower so it looks good but can?t say I have noticed a significant handling difference. I will have to take it on some back roads today. It was not an issue but I did not realize that the rears had to be done at the same time because the rear suspension is not independent. When I disconnected the rear shocks the right side spring fell out but the left side did not. I had to compress the left side to get it out and that was hard to do with the tools I had. If I had to do it over I would get an open end ratchet for the top center nut on the front struts. I was able clamp a socket with a vise grip to reach the nut and hold the strut with an Allen wrench but would have saved time with an open end ratchet.

Weird. I unbolted both rear shocks at the same time and was able to pull both out without much trouble. I used my floor jack to raise and lower the beam as needed.

Fronts were what took most of my time. I was lucky I had all the tools I needed. My portable impact and pass thru sockets made things a lot quicker.

The only thing I'm noticing so far is that it looks like my toe up front is way off now. Both tires appear to be toed out. I expected it to be a little bit off but not visibly off. I will probably log 300 miles this week and maybe get an alignment on Friday or early next week. Depends how the car drives.

Anyone else notice their toe change like this when lowering??

My alignment feels and looks good. I marked everything I could including the three 13mm nuts at the top of the front struts.

The car FEELS great. Tracks straight and isn't pulling at all. Maybe it's just an optical illusion. Either way I'll be getting aligned here in a week or so. Debating how long I want to wait...

I was able to pull mine off and place the new springs in without compressors. Autozone also rents them out too.
