So, after installing the fswerks short shift adapter along with the bushings, the shift feel is so much better. Might be my favorite mod so far.....So then it was a search for a shift knob, and I started out with the Boomba oval, because I thought it looked good, and it's weight was one of the heavier ones. I then thought I would check out one of my favorites, the M1 Abrams steel knob, one of the heaviest knobs out there (but also one of the most expensive). I was convinced at this point that the heavy knobs would help with the feel of the revised short shift. Well, I think I've come to a different conclusion. After switching back and forth between the heavy knob and the factory knob, there wasn't nearly as much difference as I thought with the shift effort. I was amazed at how smooth the factory knob was with the short shifter gear in place. I think at some point the aftermarket knob's weight may be too much, meaning that increased force of moving the weight of the knob itself counters the leverage advantage of the extra weight moving the shorter pattern.

Don't know that I'm making good sense here or not, but for me, a somewhat heavier shift knob feels good, but I know longer believe that "the heavier the better". I think I'll concentrate on the design of the knob itself and not be as concerned about weight. That being said, I think the GT350 knob may fit the bill perfectly, as I love the look, and the weight is more than stock without being one of the very heavy ones.

I was running the JBR knob(which is the heaviest knob out there) with the Boomba short shift adapter plate. The effort to shift was actually less than the stock knob, I could shift with just my fingers. The problem with the reduced effort is that it took the feel and joy away from shifting as it was just plain numb. The heavy knobs will probably pair really well with the Boomba short shift lever. I went with a knob lighter than OEM and I like the slightly added feel of notchiness to the shifting now.

I jumped on the wc lathe werks train a few months ago. Loving it.

It is a a bit lighter than stock, which took getting used to. No complaints here. My grandpa was a tool and die maker, so I love the hand machined look and feel of Chris's work.

I've had my WC Lathewerks titanium knob for 3.5 years now, it was in my foST and now it's been transferred over to my fiST. Cool tidbit, it was actually the first one he made for our platform. I had to measure and give him all the info for the countersink for the reverse lockout. Mines actually not quite perfect as I derped on the measurements so there's a little bit of rubber crammed in the threaded portion so it sits at the correct height

SeanBonham Those lathewerks must be ICE come winter. Does it also get really hot in direct sunlight?

I just jumped on the GT 350 knob bandwagon as well today. I love the better feel/higher quality look than stock, while still having an OEM look.

The most annoying thing is driving around having to gently shift until the LocTite dries.

Actually it's the total opposite. Mine is made of Delrin and doesn't really conduct heat or coolness.

I mean, it's cool [coolsmile]

I WANT a lighter, Delrin knob for mine, as I had an G2 (from Lou Gigliotti Motorsports of World Challenge fame) in my 4th gen f body, and it was PERFECT!

In fact, IF the thread size was the same as the ST's, it would go on this car (I do NOT want to use any adapters for installation, and it's an M16 x 1.5).

Do these WC Lathewerks Delrin knobs come in any different diameter choices, and in any shape but round??

Picked up a new knob last week from 9k racing. I have been looking for the "type r on a stick" knob since I got the car. So I had to pounce when I saw this. It doesn't fit 100% with the lock out, but it screws on, everything else can be fixed. It hustle needs maybe 1/32 more space. Shouldn't be a problem to shave that off somewhere.

^^^THANKS for that part number!

I know you may want to be one of the few with that knob on your ST, but that thing is just too sweet to resist!! [cool]
