IMO it's better to lurk there than to post, as you noted they're not the friendliest to people outside their clique. The only defense for them is chances are 99/100 whatever question you have has already been answered. It's just too bad most of the good data is buried under a thick veneer of bitter snarky B.S..

Yes, mine's a 1.6, which I'm perfectly fine with. None of the stock Miata engines make great power without changing the con-rods at a minimum, so in that regard choosing 1.6 or 1.8, NA or NB comes down to which body or interior you prefer. The best solution is of course buying a fast car to begin with! [giggle] The Miata does not do well with big power, the chassis just doesn't handle it. The FiST puts down power better, seriously.

If you really want a Miata, and trust me I understand the addiction, pick the model you like the best, and make sure you can get a FM2 no-elec kit and an MS3 plug-n-play from DIYautotune, and enjoy the good power balance.
My old Miata was a 90 (vin 508 actually so the 508th Miata ever made, owned by Randy Stocker of SoloMiata) and I have a soft spot for the 1.6

My friend had a Montego Blue 94m which he swapped a VVT motor into and was pushing close to 300whp though. When he took me for a ride and I felt the boost come on, I resolved to own a turbo Miata in the future. Shortly after I sold my NA and got the FiST. I still troll craigslist every day, hoping to find something worth buying for the price I want.

I'll be getting another 1.6. Unlike everyone else, I'm not afraid of the SNC issues because I understand the reality of the situation... I do lurk quite a bit on MT though. :)

Nothing like a stock miata, top down, redlining every gear... then looking at the speedo and seeing you're going 50mph. :p

Sounds like a plan! Let me know if you find a clean NA to buy. I can certainly help you put together a good game plan since I've already gone down that path. Feel free to PM me.

This thread got very interesting regarding ETC angle. Mine do look very crazy and wavy. I did end up getting a revision will take a look at some logs once the weather dries up.

Throttle closures will happen less-frequently as the temps warm up and the air loses density.
