Is the Cobb exhaust worth it??

I'm changing out my exhaust and really love the cobb stuff, but why is their exhaust more expensive then the rest? Are the 3 inch Cat-Back systems going to be louder then the 2.5 inch cobb exhaust?

Cobbs expensive because of the quality, its a very good looking and sounding exhaust. And yes the 3in exhaust will be louder, I have a MBRP exhaust due to arrive tomorrow.

I'm going with cobb because it sounds the best for what I want; mellow yet throaty under WOT. And the quality is top notch. Don't forget the exhaust hangers too! Ha.

When you receive it, Let me know about the quality and sound of that MBRP because I am really interested in that as well!

Everybody has said that exhaust is loud. And that's exactly what I don't want especially if I'm going to add a downpipe which will ultimately add more noise.

I compared the FSWERKS and the Cobb exhaust (FSWERKS carries both and is local to me in Anaheim) There is no difference in quality. Same materials (300 series stainless, polished) used in each case, but a rather large difference in cost. I went with the FSWERKS and I love the sound. I just installed a used 2JR catted downpipe for exactly the same reason (equivalent materials and quality, but much lower costs). I'm a metallurgical engineer and a welding engineer so my job is to assess material and weld quality. I have the Cobb RMM simply because the others were not available, and this is a needed modification. All install notes on these and other parts, including a Levels FMIC are on my build project. I believe Cobb makes good quality parts, but they can be excessive in their pricing.

if it's worth it to you then yes its worth it. doesn't matter what anyone else says. to me it was too pricy so i bought mbrp. only thing i regret on my car thus far is the 2j DP. not the product just the service.
im also thinking i should have gone with a catted one as the defouler doesn't stop CEL

I just don't know about the sound of the FSWERKS. Is it loud at all? Because that's not what I want. I love how Cobb's seems quiet and cruising but when you go WOT it bubbles and pops and you can hear that roar.

And I'll definitely be going Cobb catted, for one I have to because I live in MD and emissions and two, the difference between Cobb's and 2J's catted isn't that much. I tend to lean more toward Cobb products. But this FSWERKS has me rethinking my exhaust choice.

The FSWERKS sounded the same to me as the Cobb. Nice deep sound during cruising, but louder blurble and pops when at full throttle and upon release. I used a professional video camera to record video and audio for just the exhaust addition. I still need to follow up after I installed the catted DP. The OEM and FSWERKS videos are in my build project. I think previous audios of most of these exhausts were made with the microphone too close to the exhaust, so the sound quality is all over the place. Cobb did a good job in recording their exhaust. Best way is to drive in two FiSTs that have these two exhausts, like I did.

That being said, whatever you like is what is best for you, regardless of price. My earlier comment was on materials of construction, weld quality and sound. If I thought the Cobb was a better exhaust, I would have purchased it. Not too many people get to listen to several exhausts in person before making a purchase.

My recommendation is to listen to the video clips on a good quality stereo system. Laptops, phones, and tablets distort eveything too much. A good set of earbuds or headphones also helps. Since this exhaust sound distinguishes your car more than anything else, I felt it was very important to be satisfied with my selection and to take as much time as needed, before I made my desicion.

I love my 2JR Race DP + FSWerks combo, nice sound, no drone, loud when you need it to be loud!

To answer the OP's first question... In general a 3" exhaust system will be somewhat louder than a 2.5", however what really makes a difference is the number and size of the exhaust components (mufflers) installed within the exhaust system...

As far as preferences goes..During my selection process I initially compared both FSWerks ($550) and Cobbs ($749) CBE systems and ended up choosing Cobb primarily because of the differences I saw in the quality of workmanship between the two exhaust systems...Also after hearing a few sound clips of the Cobb system I was pretty much sold....I think where FSwerks appears to have cut their costs is they do not use a flanged approach when connecting the exhaust components as Cobb does....Its the added cost of including 304SS flanges along with welding them as well as the additional final finish workmanship details of "all" of the components which does add to the cost of the Cobb exhaust system ...That said....I still think choosing either FSWerks or Cobb's exhaust system would be very a good choice...

And as far as exhaust sound quality goes... I found that the Cobb exhaust system has a smooth, deep, rich, and throaty exhaust note with no drone experienced particularly during hwy cruising speeds (which was a plus for me)... I think RalleySportDirect did a great job at recording and capturing the level of sound quality of Cobbs exhaust system (see link below)...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M073FVWoVwc

However I do understand that others may have differing priorities and as such I think it really comes down to one's preferences in exhaust notes, the level of quality of the product your looking for, and what your financially comfortable in spending...

And good luck with your exhaust search...

I think it's worth it ;)

In our testing, 2.5" exhaust provided much more consistent performance. We also prefer flanges rather than slip joints to prevent exhaust leaks and for best fitment. I love the COBB exhaust on my daily driven FiST, but I'm obviously biased, ha!

from everything I have listened to online, the Cobb exhaust sounds really good and the reviews back it up. The FSWerks exhaust is also nice, but I place it just behind the Cobb system. I have been ranking most of the exhaust systems (along with downpipes, intercoolers, and other parts for the ST) and the Cobb exhaust is my number 1. I know the performance gain without a downpipe will be minimal, but the audible improvement is what has me going to them. Installing the Ford Racing/Borla exhaust on my 2011 Fiesta was one of the best things I did to the car since it gave it the sound that I wanted. The ST is very quiet from the factory and could sure use some sound to back up the looks. You can't go wrong with either the FSWerks or Cobb exhaust from what I have read, but the Cobb one seems to have slightly better reviews for sound and quality. You just need to decide if the slightly better reviews are worth the cost difference. I am going with Cobb when it is time.

I went with Cobb because I loved the sound. Also, after listening to countless exhaust videos, the Cobb one seemed the quietest. I went with something that didn't scream whenever I was driving through school zones or parking lots. But when I step on the gas, the exhaust sounds great! My gf can hear the exhaust whenever I pick her up and rev the engine on purpose, but if I cruise and take it easy, she can't even tell I'm outside. 100% satisfied

I want the exhaust to be decently loud. Is the cobb noticeably louder then stock? The MBRP appears to have a great sound but worried about quality.

I can speak for the mbrp exhaust, the quality of it is top notch. The fact that you can choose the material it's made of Is a plus in my opinion.

I picked mine up from Ryan at Horsepower Direct. I'm completely satisfied with my decision on picking it up. The sound at WOT is awesome, while cruising at highway speeds is quiet. Driving around town of you have a light foot it's not too loud, enough so my mother did even know I had placed an exhaust on the car yet lol. (granted all of my cars have had an exhaust on them.)

Here's a clip I did the other day

Im very happy worth the money, the aluminized was well Aluminum haha but the tips are very nice.
