If your FiST was totaled today, what would you be shopping for tomorrow?

I find myself debating this subject often with myself since our FiST was discontinued. There is no new FiST replacements out there and locating a used one I would buy would be a needle in a haystack search. So as a Ford person that leaves a Coyote Mustang GT for. My wife has a 10 spd auto GT due to her knee surgery. I seldom drive it not because I don't love it but if has not one paint flaw/chip or door ding and it will not be me driving when it happens. I would get the 6 speed manual in mine with the awesome B&O audio, Variable exhaust, wing delete and digital dash. $45K I believe before TTL if I order one. It is of course NOT a FiST replacement but a different animal. Double the price and performance and triple the cost in fuel. And I will still get outrun by my wife, just not ready for a slush box tranny yet!

If you had to buy in the next week what would it be? Not what is coming, what you can drive right now.

If I had money and luck it would be the GR Corolla. I’m pretty sure I’d love the way the Elantra N feels to drive in the way that it rotates and just the sound honestly (plus long warranty) at a better price point. I‘d have to try the GR86 but I think that’s what I’d want over the BRZ if I was trying to go a bit cheaper than the Elantra. I also think I’d end up liking a modern Miata a ton but I‘m really not into the way they look unfortunately. Or a Ford Maverick at MSRP.

Good thread, this is something I think about too. I wish the new version of our car was being brought into the US so I could get a new one if something happened to mine.
The Subaru BRZ would be at the top of the list, it looks like a significant improvement over the previous model. It looks like a great handling car with decent power, and I'd be okay with a two-seater. Next would come the Hyundai Veloster N, which is a really fun car to drive. It would be in second place to the BRZ just because it's about 400 lb heavier. Third would be a Miata, which is appealing as a small maneuverable car, but I don't know much about them. Fourth would be a Porsche Cayman, which is a huge step up in cost and would be a stretch because of that, but it is clearly one of the best cars to drive out there. It's also in fourth place because my perception is that it would be super expensive and a pain in the ass to get worked on. The GR Corolla is appealing, but it's probably out because of the all-wheel drive which to me adds unnecessary weight and complication that I don't need.
That's about it, because my criteria for replacement would be a small, light, maneuverable good handling car with a manual transmission.

I like a Miata.....but cross country with the way my wife packs would mean hauling a trailer!

This happened to me five years ago. My FiST was totaled and I couldn’t bear to replace it with another one, so I got a 500 Abarth, and have enjoyed it for the last half decade.

A near-exact copy of my original FiST became available out of nowhere last month, and it took about 15 minutes for me to give up on the FIAT and come back.

Good question. Mine is a spare car so I hope to have it for a long time, 2014 about to turn 50k miles. I'm even in the process of acquiring a bunch of spares to keep it going as long as I can. But when it's done? Something light and quick and minimalist. We'll see what's around when that time comes.

tough question though second hand FiST’s pop up for sale around here so I might consider that plus I could keep my parts and put them on it.
Though a new Z comes to mind if not that maybe a GR86. A Caymen also looms into sight as well . I too am eying a Maverick pickup for a daily in the future though as well. I also have options as I already own a car I am selling but I will probably replace that with another classic . I was going to buy the new Z with the money from that sale but started thinking about getting back to roots with a 240z.

That's what I would do, realistically. I love my light, tight, fun little car.
It gets good mileage, and holds a surprising amount of stuff when I need to put stuff in it. A great daily.

Ya I would be inclined to seek out a Black one I could wrap to blue mainly because I would want to stay 18 and up for the sake of not having to smog it for 4 more years.

If my Fiesta were totaled and I couldn't find a used one for some reason (or couldn't afford it, a more likely senario) I would buy a 1993 to 2000 manual 4x4 ranger. Weird switch I know but most of the cars that are similar to the fiesta cost quite a bit more and a ranger would be more affordable. Plus, my brother recently got a jeep xj and we want to get into overlanding. I would also consider a manual regular fiesta (and swap in st suspension) or a focus SVT, both of which would still handle very well, even if they lacked the power of the ST.

If another ST wasn't an option I'd probably go with the Elantra GT N Line if we're talking affordability.

My wife has a 2020 EGT and it's a really good little car that handles fine and rides well. The N Line obviously stiffens things up a bit along with other bells and whistles but moves to a 1.6t like we all know and love.

I really think that car would be a phenomenal daily and is definitely at the top of my list for non-FiST alternatives.

Well I’ve not thought about the written off (or totaled as you lot call it) part. I have been looking for a daily driver as I am a student and my tuned Fezzy eats fuel like it’s nothing. I’m thinking of the following options:
Fezzy replacement: S2000
Daily driver:
E30 325i
E36 318/325i
XR3 1983
Escort 1600 Sport
MK1 golf (2nd most likely option)
RS4 2006-8
Accord type s (most likely option)

GR Corolla would be nice but will be damn near unobtainable. My dealer said nearly all high volume toyota dealers will get 1-2 Corolla GRs this year. My dealer has a wait list of 12 right now

I have a GR86 on order which will be my Fiesta replacement most likely

Did anyone else read the road report on the Honda when they damaged a wheel and tyre? To replace both, $1,800 plus!
