How to disable the double honk when you close the door and exit if running?

Mine has never done this. I think that there is a setting somewhere that I must have changed when I first brought the car.

This is something that bothers me also. Considering the car does not have remote start.. I think it's a normal thing to start the car, get out, lock the doors and go back inside the house. I have a Jeep Grand Cherokee and do this all the time without the horn honking.

Mine is a 2016. I know for the Focus ST crowd, there is some sort of model year cutoff before people started getting this "feature".

Has to do with the slew of regulations in 2015 that were mandated after the whole key fob/ignition issues.

Ford decided to implement it earlier for the obvious reason of protection against lawsuits. Strange though that Ford didn't include this from the get go on the Fiesta, but glad they didn't.

In light of that, me too. Mine is a 2015 also and I regularly leave my car warming up as I prepare to leave. My car is parked outside though so carbon monoxide is a non-issue.

I started throwing my fob in the cup holder. If I wire in a switch I know the day will come when I forget to turn the horn back on and drive off without it

Why are you warming up your car right now? It's not the dead of Winter. I've read to leave it running for 10 seconds before leaving to get the oil flowing, but any longer than that is a waste. Cars warm up faster when you drive them (but don't hoon them before operating temp) and it can actually be bad for the engine to let it sit there and idle.

Only time I normally get out of my car while it's running is to grab the mail at my apartment mailbox. To get around the honking I just leave the door cracked. Close it, but not to the point where it's latched. It won't press the button so it won't honk but the door isn't wide open.

The warming up was more to illustrate the point more easily. Bottom line is if you crank the car and shut the door to go back inside the thing honks with the fury of a thousand suns. All because 13 morons left their cars running and died. I can probably make it a habit to crack the door over time but the feature is massively obnoxious in the meantime.

Didn't take me long to make it a habit honestly. The honks teach you pretty quick.

I usually just keep the keys in my pocket or connected to my belt loop when I'm in uniform. Can keep the car running and lock it from the fob if I have to run in somewhere quickly.

But that incident was indeed due to a recall where these POS Jeeps were rolling away by themselves while in 'D'. There was on story where a woman was dragged into a lake by her Jeep.

You are close: POS=true; rolling away while in 'D'=false. The problem is that the driver "thought" they put it in park when they didn't actually. It's unconventional, so some people didn't use it correctly.

The regulatory agency opened an investigation last August into complaints about the unconventional shifter, in which the lever does not move through a gate but changes gear in response to being pushed forward or backward, after which it returns to the center position. It appears many drivers mistakenly think they've engaged park when they have not.

I just softly close the door, when I get out with it running. Door closes, and latches. Just not fully closed, and doesnt honk, this way. Usually do this when I step out at the convenience store, or something.

To me, it should be treated like a remote start car, shut off if the key is not present if any attempt to drive it happens. How hard would that be?

Folks, this is merely part of the key-minder feature that helps prevent you from locking or leaving the key in the car.
[MENTION=30]CivicAssassin[/MENTION]: That's what I've been doing is leaving the door cracked-open. That avoids the honk. However this is visible from a distance and inviting.
[MENTION=3611]miguel.in.az[/MENTION]: Temporarily placing the keyfob on the windshield or on the roof sounds like a nice idea that I'll try. Maybe it'll even let you lock the car while it runs? That would be nice. I wonder if it'll honk if you walk-up and hit unlock haha?

I once set the alarm off, opening the door with the keyfob in my pocket so I know detection failures can sometimes occur. Odd that it somehow armed with the doors unlocked though. It seems the two systems were briefly out-of-sync. (no pun intended)

Two Questions:

1) Where is the horn relay? Simply splicing in an interrupt switch on the low-current side of the horn relay would prevent the relay from being signaled.

2) Has anyone tried to drive away without the keyfob in the car? Does it die as soon as you shift into gear?
