With the FiST being discontinued how badly will this affect resale value?
possibly increase it since there isn't a new model to compete against, but the market has shifted away from cars, so it will probably drop even further. I am not concerned since buying cars for an investment rarely works well. Just be glad you aren't trying to sell a Fusion or Taurus right now. If you bought the Fiesta for the resale value, you bought it for the wrong reason.

Definitely didn’t buy it for the resale value. My only concern is if my car is worth 13-14k now and I can sell it for that much and a year from now it tanks to 8 or 9k it’s prudent to sell it now with the equity it has and get into something like an M235i

If that is the case, then I would consider selling now as it will be a few years before the market is super-saturated with crossovers and there will be some demand for something different. Buying a BMW sedan or coupe will be just as bad for how quickly the value will drop.

It's likely that the big 3 will follow suit. But I doubt that Foreign automakers will completely abandon the small car market. These companies realize the importance of offering entry level vehicles and will be handsomely rewarded with my money when it's time to buy my next car.
This is an interesting angle I had not thought of. Ford is going to have no entry level vehicle. So much for starting a lifetime of brand loyalty when a person is young and looking for their first car.

This is why I'm calling their fearless leader hatchett....not hackett....he is doing and allowing a complete hatchett job to FORD.....I'm already planning my next car. A FORD it wont be for dam sure.

I've seen it. It's relatively cheap, ugly af, and made in India. No young driver will want that thing. Actually, I don't know who will buy it. Did I mention that it's ugly?

Thats not cheap for entry level. There are plenty of people out there that cannot afford, or get financing for 20k. I used to be one of those due to medical bills and poor choices in the past. Im past it now, but it doesnt mean others arent still there. For whatever the reason people are not well off financially, this change takes Ford out of the running for new vehicles. Yes you can buy a used car. But those dont come with a warranty or peace of mind that it wont just fall apart right after you buy. I do find it strange that they are not choosing to keep a single vehicle that would fit that market. Other companies will get the business. I wonder how long this market or phase will last before it moves back.

It's very ugly, and I hate it. But I see a lot of those mini Buick turd looking things. Someone will buy it.

Dude the cost of living is going up $20,000 is cheap and they're going to have incentives on them. My first car was a 96 Ford Escort that was $600. My brother still has his first car it's a 2005 Ford Focus ZX3 with a salvage title he paid 3500 for it. Sorry I just don't have sympathy for people who can't afford a brand new car, you should start with a used car unless you have a rich mommy and daddy. I hate the Ford ecosport but it is very much entry-level. There are plenty of people who can't afford entry-level rent, that's a big problem. We are simply being priced out of life the average person. That's my rant for the day.

Ok then lets take it out of the entry level then. I am speaking in regards to people other than those coming out of high school. I am with you, people shouldnt start out brand new. But others that maybe have that issue of cost of living increasing, and dont have the best paying jobs, with kids, maybe single moms? They should be pigeon holed into an SUV that is cheap entry level, while still out of their price range? Or used with no safeguards? My concern here is more about the lower class. Yes cost of living is going up. Everything is going up, but new cars are generally easy to get financed for. People want reliability. On top of that its not just about those people. I bought a Fiesta ST because I wanted something fun that didnt cost a ton of money for. I didnt want to work to pay a mortgage and a car payment. To get an Eco sport in a 4wd option on fords site, built in a way that I would want, makes it 25-26k. I can see both sides of it but I really am disappointed that everything is moving to SUV / Crossover, or Truck. Bottom line. In the realm of the entry level if you compare the cost of the Eco Sport to the cost of a base level fiesta, there is still a big gap in price. Accessibility will be impacted. My opinion. But it is what it is. We can only watch from the sidelines.

Yep, you are 100% correct!

Ford does have the EcoSport, but I don't think it will do very well. I have been to multiple autoshows since the introduction and there is never anyone around it. Local dealers have them and they aren't moving. Journalists don't seem impressed at all with it. Compare that to the Fiesta launch when the media loved the car and it had a massive pre-order list. The rollout of the EcoSport has been terrible. All I see are ads on Instagram showing off the terrible rear hatch. The comments are pretty clear that nobody likes it.

I 100% think that Mazda, VW, Hyundai, and Toyota will continue to offer cars and win a lot of the car buyers who are fed up with the over saturation of SUV's and crossovers. They all offer a balanced portfolio that covers a wide demographic of buyers and interests.

I feel you man. It's definitely expensive compared to what you could have got a fiesta for especially with the incentives.

If everyone buys a raised-AWD-minivan thing, think of the money saved by govt no longer needing to do road resurfacing!

Silver linings!

The ONLY way we will get any cars back, is through harmonized crash and emissions standards as well as free trade. Which the USA will never enable. Which as a relatively small market Canadian (where cars still somewhat sell ok), which has its market availability dictated by, I say “thanks Yanks”. ❤️

You're welcome. /s :(

Wasn't there a time when you could get, without any 'grey market' type shenanigans, Peugeots, Renaults, Citroens, etc. which we could never get here, south of the border??
