Had my FiST three weeks wait to lower it or no??

I just purchased my 2015 FiST less than a month ago but already know I want to get rid of the wheel gap. I love the lowered look and tucking a little tire just looks so good to me. Lowering springs have always been a given in my vehicle purchases.

I found a great deal on a set of Vogtland springs on eBay for for $177 shipped. I ran Vogtland before on my 325i and loved them so running the brand doesn't faze me. I snagged them Sunday night and they will be at my door direct from Germany this Friday. The weather is supposed to be in the low 70's this weekend here in GA so its perfect wrenching weather.

I'm torn though... should I wait and drive it on the stock suspension for awhile so I can actually notice a difference or should I just swap it out now?? I say this because in the three weeks I've owned the car I've literally only driven it twice... its not my daily car.

Any thoughts? Wait and get a feel for the OEM setup or swap them out now??

Thanks![driving]

The weather is going to be too nice to pass it up! Looks like I'll be breaking out the air tools and lower it. :) I'll just keep telling myself its better then the OEM setup anyways [woot]

Thanks for the reply![thumb]

It may not be better for handling, or it might, but if your primary goal is eliminating gap, and you are comfortable potentially trading off some handling, go for it.

For me, it would eat at me constantly to not have a good frame of reference with the OEM springs. But lower and stiffer is generally good. And if the springs are progressive, you may get some added ride comfort as well.

$177 shipped is a hell of a deal, regardless :)

Thanks for the reply!

I'm really thinking the same thing.... The car has sat for the last two weeks while I sell my daily commuter. In fact the last time I drove it was a quick trip to the tint shop and back. When my daily is gone the FiST will become my daily. I already have these Springs coming and a Cobb AP3. I really think I should drive it daily for a month a more so I can appreciate the mods more or at least notice the difference... I may just wait... tough decision.

I couldn't pass that deal up. I found an international seller out of Germany. The auction was in Euros and after the conversion it worked out to $177 USD. No one here in the states could touch that price. The surprising part is I just got a UPS notice today that they were shipped and will be at my door Friday. They're coming straight from Germany in two days all for $177! UPS never ceases to amaze me.... wish the usps was half as efficient.

Got the sprigs installed did not get a chance to take a picture of the final product it was late by the time I finished. I'll get that sometime this week when I pull it out for a wash. The backs were simple the front wasn't bad except for the brake fluid reservoir that was a pain to get off to make room to get to the top nuts on the driver side....

Picture measurements are stock springs. I don't have pictures of the after measurements but it looks like it's about an 1" lower on all four corners.

The ride feels great! I was shocked but like some other reviews ans the mod bargin review it does feel a little "softer" almost "plusher" if that makes sense. The ride doesnt feel as rigid which is nice. I haven't had a chance to throw it into any corners yet...

Absolutely love the look of it now just the right amount of fender gap [twothumb]

Good for you, I only waited a couple weeks too! Went with the Mountune's. Definitely worth it.... Now just need the Koni Sports F&R to finish it off.

Thanks! I'm sure new struts will be on the list as well a little later down the line. That or a full set of coil overs depending on the cost difference. I just bought a new intake, Cobb Access port and a few other goodies today as well. Looking at the Cobb intercooler kit as well. Didn't take long for the mod bug to bite... Lol

Since they feel a bit softer, have you noticed them bottoming out or rubbing at all? I'm really considering getting a set now.

Not at all. I drive in Metro Atlanta which is not the smoothest roads and I haven't had a problem yet. I am proactive though as well if I see something that you think will be rough just slow down. I drove like this at stock levels as well.

All that being said this was the first set of lowering springs I have ever installed that I actually had to compress the new springs before the struts would poke out of the top hats. So they're not really that "low" for the stock strut travel.

Pull the trigger on a set you won't be disappointed. [emoji106]

Update on the springs

I'm experiencing some pretty bad coil bind. At least I think that's what it is. I've never experienced this before on a lowered car. So at first I thought it might be user error on the install. I checked everything this evening to no avail...

I noticed these springs don't have a rubber coated coil like my Eibachs on others cars have had. I'm thinking that might help with binding.

I read on another thread BlueBomber lubricated the top coils and that fixed his. I'll give that a shot tomorrow. After that Ill try making my own rubber insulator sleeves for a couple of the coils and see if that helps...

If it doesn't these will be coming off. I'm curious what modbargains experienced when they ran these.
