I am the current owner of 2011 Evo GSR and am interested in purchasing a new Fiesta ST. (2016 White, grey recaro, sunroof)

I am currently on my 3rd Evo and as time has gone by they have gotten harder to live with, but they are in fact my dream car and these days I enjoy walking up to my car more then I do driving it.

I traded my previous Evo for a 2013 Fit. Loved that little thing but when the mod bug hit the car wasn't supported like I thought it would've been at the time. Did no research (lesson learned)

I found my current car when the little lady was buying her Jetta and bought it on an impulse.

Almost 2 years later I have a wandering eye again.

I just don't know if I will be making the same mistake. The ST seems to be well supported and is fun to drive.

It reminds me of a mid 90's tuner car. Those were the days! And it has me feeling a bit nostalgic.

The Evo is a beast but it is law breakingly fun at the very least and lugging my 3 yr old around in it has me boosting less. 🙁

Are there any rattles that make these things unbearable?

Will I be making a mistake?

Ive had an Evo 8 and a STi and love the car more then both of those. The car shares the stable with a Z06 and I still think the ST is a complete blast to drive. Hopefully that helps some

I bought an Evo VIII new back in 2003 when they first arrived and drove it until I sold it in 2009. I miss that car. I thought I'd get an Evo X, but it just was not the same, so for several years after I got into riding motorcycles until I got the bug a couple of years ago to get back into a fun performance car that was relatively cheap. After a test drive in the FiST I was sold as it reminded me a lot of my Evo in terms of handling and the visceral feeling it provided. It doesn't have the power of an Evo, but it has enough to keep things fun and exciting. Even with the Focus RS coming, which seems closer to the Evo than the FiST I'm not so eager to jump just yet. The Fiesta ST is a bargain and a gem.

What's done to your Evo? I use to have a wrx, then sti, then an Evo VIII. I traded the Evo for a G35 back in 09 and have missed it ever since. It really depends on what you're looking for. I miss how responsive the Evo is to mods. The FiST is a fun little car, but I have been disappointed by its power so far (I'm full bolt ons with a pro tune). I ordered one of Deadhook motorsport's turbo kits a few weeks ago, I'm hoping it will somewhat satisfy my power carving. What turned me on to the FiST was the price and after seeing ATP's car running 12's I figured the car would be super responsive to mods, but I found out that's not the case, at least not on the stock turbo. I know a lot of people really like the stock turbo's low-mid range feel. I personally hate it, it reminds me of an old-school V8. The car completely runs out of steam after 5k. I remember when I first got my Evo I only put about $2k into it and it was a pretty quick car, then later added a gt35r. It really comes down to what you're expecting out of the FiST... Until you upgrade the turbo, it's never going to be a quick straight line car (turbo kits for this car start at about $4k so keep that in mind). Yes, ATP offers an upgrade at 1/2 the cost, but it seems like most people on this forum end up being disappointed with it and turn right around and buy the $4k kit.

As another fellow evo IX owner, I do miss my evo. But like others have mentioned before it all comes down to what you can live with and what you can't live without. The FiST is an amazing platform and I enjoy owning one as it is moderately cheap to upgrade, great looks and great on gas even when modded if you can stay off of the right pedal. Will it ever have 500 hp like an evo, no or maybe someday. But from my perspective it doesn't have to (yet haha). Hope that helps some and good luck with whatever you decide!

My current mods are intake, UICP and lowering springs.

My goal for this car is a well balanced quick car that is on the verge of fast. If you get what I mean.

Had that with my VIII but got a smokin deal for my 08 MR and couldn't turn it down. In retrospect I should've stuck with the MR (loved the interior and nav and the transmission)

My current Evo is a rattle monster. The Rockford fosgate covers a lot of that when I'm alone.

My yearly maintenance is approaching and I may be having some maintenance fatigue and that's where the thoughts of jumping ship could be coming from. All work and no play make vanilla2 a very bored boy.

And that's where the fiesta comes in.

Mods seem relatively cheap and it doesn't have all the extra systems and difs that need attention.

But the bang for the buck may not be there. So there's that.

I am just really torn on what to do and I wish I could have both, but finances will not allow that and ultimately have me leaning towards the fiesta.

And the prospect of change is also very intriguing. Have had an AWD mitsu for all but 18 mos or so since 97. (AE86 and fit) sprinkled in there

That depends on what your definition of "quick on the verge of fast" is. There are a couple of guys that have run low-mid 14 sec 1/4 mile on stock turbo. More relatistic seems to be high 14s to low 15s. I was able to run a 14.4 with my bone stock 04 wrx (close to what the quicker stock turbo FiSTs are running) which was dogshit slow compared to my Evo. Considering that your Evo is basically stock, you might be perfectly happy with a stage 2-3 FiST. I get that the FiST isn't designed to be a drag car, but neither was the Evo. The FiST is based on a econobox platform, similar to the Evo, so you're likely to have the same cheap interior rattle/feel. I'd definitely recommend you take one for a test drive, if you haven't already.

I can understand that situation. The Fiesta is cheap in comparison to maintain with good fuel mileage. One thing I don't miss with the Evo was the fuel economy. I also have a Deadhook turbo kit on order and I think my goal for ~300whp/300wtq with the FiST should keep me happy for awhile.

Coming from a stage 3 (intake/exhaust/TMIC/turbo/protune) STi build I'll say that you may be disappointed with the power of the ST....there's just no comparison nor will there be, even if you go with the $4k turbo kit you still might be lacking when comparing it to your Evo. However in my case I am quite happy with the Fiesta, it is noticeably slower than the Scooby but it is much more fun to drive and handles like no other. So if you're after power you're gonna spend alot of money before you're happy. But if you can handle a slower car feeling faster than it is, this is the one for you. Not to mention build quality and amenities are pretty darn great in this little car. And I'm getting 32 mpg since day of purchase, I'm on my 4th tank of gas. Like you I have little ones and the Fiesta is a better family car, though the back seat is tiny.

But this is guaranteed: It will be WAY faster than your Fit was.

Oh dang, are you going to sell the FiST with the turbo kit then get an RS? For me, it was either stop modding the FiST and get an RS or just go crazy with the FiST.

If the turbo kit satisfies my expectations I don't intend on selling the FiST and will keep it for a long time, just add to the stable. But if I were to sell, I'd remove everything I put on. The aftermarket will take some time to develop with the RS. While that's happening I want to enjoy my FiST with it's unique mods. In 3-4 yrs I'll revisit my position, which is about the time my car will be due for CA smog. I currently don't want an RS and like the FiST's smaller light weight package just a bit more. Now if there was going to be a Fiesta RS even in FWD version only I'd seriously consider that.

I am looking for a car to feel almost fast for what it is.

I imagine both the Evo and fiesta wil take the same basic mods to achieve that goal.

The fiesta should be cheaper to get there I would think looking at the cost of some of the mods.

Are there not any turbos similar to what FP offers for the evos? If not are any one the way? Or are pricy kits what's available?

Has anyone successfully increased displacement to achievement more hp?

I bet a 2 liter FIST would be rather beastly

there are stock frame turbo upgrades available.
stroker kits may be on the horizon. Deadhook is now offering internal engine component upgrades.

I asked for 24k they said we will do 19 but we need 3000 down and your payment would be 512 a mo for 72 mos.

I walked. The quest continues and I may have to be a lot more patient.

Just to let you know my Fist has been the funnest car I have ever owned. This little go-kart makes driving fun again.I don't mod so I can't give you any advice on that topic.I'm 53 and have owned alot of vehicles in my life,69 mustang coupe comes to mind but this is more fun.6 months and 20000 miles later.I just can't let it sit. It gives me more smiles per miles.
